It's been quite some time since the first episode of Robert Sheehan — Misfits has maintained a solid fan base and continues to accrue new fans all the time.
The show is loved for its raunchy humor and the diversity of the main characters. Each is very much a misfit in their own right, all coming from varying backgrounds and bringing unique personalities to the table. The story was chaotic and intriguing enough to begin with, and then to add to it all, of course, superpowers are quickly thrown into the mix before the first episode is even done — needless to say, a lot happens in the first episode.
The Storm Hits
The storm that alters the main characters and lends them the superpowers that the show becomes known for, occurs not long after the group has started their first day of community service. Viewers hardly even know who the characters are yet, only just learning their names and observing their building dynamics with each other, when suddenly hail starts falling from the sky and all rush to take cover — just to be struck by lightning, shifting the story for good.
Gary Goes Missing
Gary doesn't last very long in the show before he comes to a tragic end. He puts up a tough front, threatening any characters who seem to be insulting him, but his sensitivity shows when he throws a fit over getting pain on his hat and runs out of the scene in a huff — never to be seen by the group again. Or, not while living, anyway.
The Probation Worker Goes Berserk
The probation worker isn't the friendliest guy to begin with, but once he's hit by lightning, everything goes haywire. He takes on the qualities of some sort of beast, hunching his head and shoulders and twitching in an uncontrolled manner. He becomes completely obsessed with his hatred of the group and eventually reveals himself to be Gary's murderer.
Nathan Is Kicked Out Of His House
The first episode lends the viewer a bit more perspective on Nathan's life and behaviors. As each episode comes along the viewer understands each character more, allowing them to easier empathize with these people who make themselves so unlikeable from the get-go. With Nathan, viewers are tempted to become sympathetic when seeing him kicked out of his house and left homeless — although his continued rude behavior doesn't completely absolve him.
Kelly Realizes Her Power
Kelly is the first member of the group to recognize that something about her has changed after they are all affected by the storm.
She goes home and, while playing with her dog, begins to hear his thoughts. Later, she finds herself overhearing what her fiancé of the time is thinking, too — she doesn't understand what's happening but knows something is off, and eventually becomes the first to alert the rest of the group to what's happened to them.
Curtis Saves Kelly
Nobody wants to believe Kelly when she tells them that the probation worker has gone crazy and is in fact after killing her. It isn't until someone opens the door and lets the probation worker in, resulting in Kelly being attacked and killed, that Curtis's time-travel power is activated and he's able to see that Kelly is telling the truth.
Kelly Kills The Probation Worker
Kelly stands out as one of the most capable, no-nonsense of the group when she does what has to be done and defends them against their probation worker.
The group is quick to make fun of Kelly and doubt her worth as a person, but when she thinks quickly and grabs a paint can with which to hit their attacker, killing him, her strength shows through, even if in the most unfortunate circumstance.
The Group Hides The Bodies
The group assumes that if they bring their issue to the police they will only be blamed for what has happened — both Gary and the probation worker's deaths. They are used to a system that casts doubt before hearing them out, and so they band together to move the bodies and bury them under a bridge.
The Bottle Scene
It's one of the most famous and surprising scenes from the show, and also the most bizarre. While relating a story to the group about an encounter with taking a breathalyzer test, Alisha suggestively swallows a water bottle. A modern-day viewer might find it a little uncomfortable to experience how hyper-sexualized Alisha is, even before she discovers her sexual superpower.
Nathan Has No Powers
So much goes on in the first episode that it almost gets overlooked that Nathan is the only one who doesn't have any powers. When he finally realizes it, of course, he throws a bit of a tantrum, not liking that he seems to be the only one left out, despite the fact that following Misfits episodes.
