Following the success of Fool Me Once earlier this year, the Missing You now has a Netflix release date. The drama is based on a novel released a decade ago, focusing on a detective who loses the love of her life, and features Slow Horses star Rosalind Elezar in the lead role. The project was announced not long after Fool Me Once took over streaming in January, becoming one of the year's biggest series.

Netflix UK has confirmed, via a new poster, that Missing You will be released on January 1st. Subscribers who enjoyed Fool Me Once will know that the promotional image for the new detective-centered drama is very similar to the previous Coben adaptation. The two shows also share the same release date. The caption reads: “Nothing burns like an old flame.”

What The Release Date Means For Missing You

An Interesting Placement For An Intriguing Story

The latest Coben series tells the story of Detective Kat Donovan (Eleazar). Eleven years ago, her fiancé, Josh (Top Boy star Ashley Walters) disappeared. Kate hasn’t heard from him since. As she swipes on a dating app, she's shocked to see his face. Josh’s reappearance, ultimately, forces the detective to look into the mystery of her father's murder and discover secrets from her past.

Along with Walters and Eleazar, who plays Louisa Guy on the Apple TV+ spy dramedy Slow Horses, the cast of Missing You also includes Jessica Plummer and Richard Armitage, among others. The latest collaboration between Coben and Netflix comes after Stay Close, The Stranger, in addition to the breakout Fool Me Once. It features several executive producers from the latter series, including Nicola Shindler, Danny Brocklehurst, and Cobin himself.

Fool Me Once enters the list of most viewed Netflix TV shows of all time, besting an acclaimed fantasy series' viewership in the process.

It's that last one that Netflix may be hoping to replicate. Fool Me Once, a thriller, had one of the biggest debuts on the service with more than 20 million views at the outset and continued to grow from there. Sharing the same release date one year apart, a nearly identical poster, and similar themes, the strategy of bringing in viewers from the previous show is clear.

The Verdict On Missing You

The Casting Makes It Intriguing

Whether or not Missing You gets to the success of its Coben predecessor, having Eleazar in the lead role does promise that the disappearance and murder drama will have a compelling lead at its center. She's one of the highlights in a uniformly strong Slow Horses cast and this latest role, should it take off, will introduce her to a potentially even bigger global audience.
