New images from Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One have been released, providing new looks at Tom Cruise and the new villain played by MCU star Pom Klementieff. After the strong reception to Mission: Impossible – Fallout in 2018, Cruise is re-teaming with writer/director Christopher McQuarrie for two final installments in the long-running franchise, the first of which is due out this summer. Mission: Impossible 7 is set to introduce several new characters into the mix, including a central new villain played by Esai Morales and other new characters played by Klementieff and Hayley Atwell.
Now, as the Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One release date inches closer, EW has shared a fresh set of images from the film, providing the first clear look at Klementieff's character after she was briefly featured in the film's trailer. Although the name of Klementieff's antagonist hasn't yet been revealed, McQuarrie teases that she "is somebody who, at the start of our story, is partnered with Esai and represents this malevolent force that Ethan is opposed to." Mission: Impossible 7's New Characters Explained
A number of familiar faces are returning for Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, including Rebecca Ferguson as Ilsa, Simon Pegg as Benji, Ving Rhames as Luther, and Henry Cerny as Eugene Kittridge. Vanessa Kirby is also returning as Alanna Mitsopolis, aka the White Widow, after first being introduced in Mission: Impossible – Fallout. In addition to these returning characters, the film is also introducing a number of new ones.
Atwell's character, Grace, who was first unveiled in set photos before briefly popping up in the Mission: Impossible 7 trailer, seems to be aligned with Ethan. She has previously been described as "ambiguous," and the trailer reveals that she will feature in one of the film's car chase sequences. Morales' villain, whose name has not yet been revealed, is also featured in the trailer facing off against Hunt on a train and against Ilsa on a bridge in Venice. Morales is also expected to reprise the role for Mission: Impossible 8.
Other new characters include those played by Shea Whigham, Rob Delaney, and Cary Elwes, although little is known about exactly how they will factor into the story. While many questions remain about Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, the film is certainly shaping up to be an exciting and fresh take on the long-running franchise.
