The stakes are getting even higher in the latest Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One trailer. Production for the latest Mission: Impossible sequel has endured a number of hurdles since being announced in early 2019, with the COVID-19 pandemic forcing both a delay and shutdown, including the now-infamous audio clip of Tom Cruise berating two crew for not following COVID-19 set rules. Finally wrapping in September 2021 after a year, Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One is gearing up to make its long-awaited debut in July.

After nearly a year of leaving audiences hanging for more footage, Paramount Pictures has released a new Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One trailer.

The trailer, as seen above, offers the best look yet at Cruise's various death-defying stunts to come from the sequel, including being hung off a cliff twice and sending a train flying and crashing. The video also teases Ethan's past coming back to get him and hinting the villain may be someone he's encountered before.

As expected from the franchise seven movies in, the Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One trailer takes the time to spotlight many of death-defying stunts that were making headlines throughout the film's production, namely Cruise going over a cliff for two major set pieces in the film. While the previous trailer memorably ended with his jumping off a cliff on his motorcycle, the new video goes a step further by showing off more of the train-set sequence to be featured in the film.

Another major point of interest seen in the Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One trailer is further insight for the plot of the next sequel. Between the return of Henry Czerny's Kittridge and Esai Morales' unnamed antagonist teasing it's "been a long time" since he and Ethan have crossed paths, the story seems to hold deeper ties to the franchise's past. The trailer also spotlights more trademarks from the original Mission: Impossible movie returning, including the frequent use of Dutch angles in tense face-offs.

Outside of being another action-packed installment, one of the biggest feelings from the Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One trailer is that it's potentially building up to an emotional finale for Cruise's iconic hero. It was originally reported that Part Two would act as a send-off for Ethan, bringing his 28-year run to an end, though writer/director Christopher McQuarrie recently hinted plans may have changed. But with Ethan putting his life on the line for those closest to him, he may be putting his death-defying days behind him in the near future.
