Tom Cruise returns as Ethan Hunt for another mission, but does Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part 2, and that announcement has left audiences wondering how Part 1 sets it up.

Throughout the core new adventure with Ethan Hunt and the IMF - which includes encountering Grace (Hayley Atwell), facing off with a new AI-driven villain, and reuniting with Kittridge (Henry Czerny) after decades - teases for where the story will go next are included all the way until Mission: Impossible 7's ending. However, Hollywood has become much more comfortable in recent years to include post-credits scenes that further set up sequels. This has created further questions about if Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part 1 has a post-credits scene.

Mission: Impossible 7 Does Not Have A Post-Credits Scene

It is confirmed that Mission: Impossible 7 does not have a post-credits scene. Tom Cruise and Christopher McQuarrie elect to leave audiences with a conclusion to the current story that still sets up Mission: Impossible 8 through a proper ending instead of giving audiences an additional tease of what is coming next. No Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One post-credits scene does not mean that audiences have to leave their seats right when the credits start rolling. It is still great to sit through the credits and see the names of everyone who worked on the movie even if there is no Mission: Impossible 7 after-credits scene.

Why A Mission: Impossible 7 End-Credits Scene Wasn't Needed

Including a Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part 1 post-credits scene would have been an unnecessary move for the sequel. The title alone already clues in audiences that this is not the end of Ethan Hunt's story, while the movie's ending is all the set-up that is needed for Mission: Impossible 8. It would have been very easy for McQuarrie to attach a post-credits scene to Mission: Impossible 7 considering the sequel's production is nearly complete. However, it is better for the movie to stick the landing with its main story than add additional scenes from the sequel. Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part 1's Rotten Tomatoes indicate it does.

If there was a Mission: Impossible 7 end-credits scene, it also would have broken a franchise tradition. There has never been a Mission: Impossible post-credits scene featured at the end of any movie. The closest the franchise has come was with the tease of the Syndicate rising at the end of Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol before they became the main villain of Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation. By not including a post-credits scene after Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part 1, the franchise retains this tradition and ignores the Hollywood trend.
