Mistborn is one of the most popular fantasy book series of the 21st century, and it's shocking that it hasn't been made into a movie yet, especially since there are a number of actors who would be perfectly cast in adaptation. Brandon Sanderson is an acclaimed and record-breaking author best known for Mistborn and The Stormlight Archive, as well as for finishing The Wheel of Time series following Robert Jordan's ing. According to Sanderson, who is beloved for his communication with his fans, Mistborn is already in discussions for a Hollywood film adaptation. If so, it will be essential for the project to nail the main cast.

The original Mistborn series consists of three books set in a fantasy world ruled by an oppressive, god-like dictator known as the Lord Ruler. Some characters, called Allomancers, have magical abilities through their consumption of metals, with each metal corresponding to a different power. Very rarely, these characters have access to every metal, making them a Mistborn. A young girl named Vin is discovered as a Mistborn and recruited by a gang of thieves led by the charismatic Kelsier in a plot to overthrow and assassinate the Lord Ruler. For a Mistborn movie to work, Vin and other great characters from the series will need to be cast perfectly.

With the fantasy craze still in effect from Game of Thrones, it's a surprise that these fantasy novels haven't made it to TV or film yet.

11 Vin - Dafne Keen

Lyra thinks about Will in His Dark Materials season 3 finale

Vin is the lead character in Mistborn, starting out as a 16-year-old girl with a rough upbringing among various thieving crews in the slums. Her upbringing makes her naturally untrusting with a huge fear of abandonment, leading her to often suffer from anxiety. Vin possesses great power as a Mistborn and eventually grows to be confident in herself throughout the series. Dafne Keen has played this sort of unruly, quick-witted, tomboyish female lead as Lyra in His Dark Materials and shown the skill in Logan to play a character who starts off quiet, then later grows to open up and steals the show from their charismatic male lead counterpart.

Some of the most captivating TV shows and movies are in the fantasy genre, so here are 8 more fantasy novels that are being adapted for the screen.

10 Kelsier - Nikolaj Coster-Waldau

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau as Jaime Lannister wearing armor in Game of Thrones.

Kelsier begins the Mistborn trilogy as the lead, assembling the thieving crew to overthrow the Final Empire. Kelsier is a powerful Mistborn, but his primary characteristics are his charisma, leadership, and humor. Revered by his entire crew, Kelsier is always able to laugh or find a positive spin when times get tough. Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, who famously played the complex Jaime Lannister in Game of Thrones, could bring the same sort of charm to life on the big screen while also displaying the sensitivity of Kelsier's romantic and paternal side.

9 Elend Venture - Daniel Portman

Daniel Portman looks on in The Control Room

Daniel Portman is another Game of Thrones actor, having played Podrick Payne, a shy, awkward squire who grows to become a talented and brave warrior. Though portraying Mistborn's Elend Venture would place Portman in more of a spotlight than Podrick did, there are similarities between the characters. Elend is a nobleman's son who prefers burying himself in books than taking part in the socialite life. As the series progresses, Elend is forced to grow into a leader and a warrior while also progressing as a romantic partner to Vin. Portman looks perfect for the role and can embody the gawky, younger Elend, as well as the confident king.

8 Sazed - Djimon Hounsou

Djimon Hounsou as Steve Mardenborough at the dinner table in Gran Turismo

Sazed is one of the most exciting characters in Mistborn, as he's the one whose POV chapters often explore the mystery of the Lord Ruler and the Hero of Ages prophecy. Sazed is a kind, wise, and peaceful man, who often shies away from leadership and combat, despite proving to be great at both on multiple occasions. He's known as a scholar, intellectually driven toward history and the study of religions. Djimon Hounsou has played characters with the sensitivity and depth of Sazed, and he also has the physical prowess for battle scenes to be believable.

7 Spook - Jack Dylan Grazer

Like Vin, Spook is recruited to the thieving crew at a young age in the first novel. He's brought in because he's related to Clubs, and is mostly on the sidelines as a shy, gawky teenager, often used for comic relief. Like the other teenage characters, Spook grows to be confident and powerful in his own right, despite still having insecurities about being dismissible and less useful than other crew . In the Shazam! movies, Jack Dylan Grazer has shown he can play a humorous but awkward character who also has his moments of being a hero.

6 The Lord Ruler - Lee Pace

Lee Pace smiling as Brother Day in Foundation.

The Lord Ruler barely has scenes in the Mistborn books, despite his name and presence being mentioned countless times. His character is explored in depth by scholars, and by those analyzing his rule, and a film could portray the events of Alendi, Rashek, and the Hero of Ages prophecy via flashbacks. By playing Thranduil in The Hobbit and Brother Day in Foundation, Lee Pace has shown that he can have a powerful, physical presence on screen in every moment, and could perfectly embody the great impact the Lord Ruler has in each of his climactic scenes.

5 Breeze - Mark Addy

An image of Mark Addy looking surprised in A Knight's Tale

Breeze is one of Kelsier's crew who doesn't have much time to shine early on. He uses emotional Allomancy to manipulate others, and Vin finds him initially frustrating because of his abrasive willingness to use it on her. Breeze is later shown to be a kinder man than he lets on, often using his Allomancy on simple gestures to make people happier. Game of Thrones and A Knight's Tale actor Mark Addy has the charisma and humor to take part in the thief crew banter, as well as the acting strengths to play Breeze's more thoughtful side.

4 Hammond - Gwendoline Christie

Brienne drawing her sword in Game of Thrones

Brandon Sanderson has said that he regretted not adding enough female characters in the Mistborn series, and his plans for a film script would include Hammond and Dockson as women (via Arcanum). With that in mind, Gwendoline Christie seems like an apt choice to play Hammond, the strong Pewterarm Allomancer. While Christie may seem obvious, having played a physically imposing warrior as Brienne of Tarth in Game of Thrones, Hammond, or "Ham," is a largely different character, with new traits for the actress to explore. Ham is humorous and enjoys discussing philosophical ideas, and later becomes a military leader with a deep connection to his troops.

3 Marsh - David Wenham

Iron Fist - Harold Meachum

David Wenham is famous for playing Faramir, a character with insecurities deriving from feeling inferior to his older brother, in the Lord of the Rings trilogy. In the case of Marsh, he is Kelsier's older brother and is left with self-doubt as Kelsier leads the rebellion against the Final Empire, something he was never able to succeed in. Marsh was a previous rebel leader but resigned after not being able to make much progress. Marsh becomes one of the most complex characters in the series as he descends into becoming an Inquisitor.

2 Straff Venture - Ralph Fiennes

Ralph Fiennes as Julian Slowik overseeing the meal prep in The Menu.

Straff Venture is a central antagonist in the Mistborn book The Well of Ascension and is the father of Elend Venture. Ralph Fiennes is known for great villain roles, including one of the greatest movie villains of all time, Amon Goeth of Schindler's List, and one of the most iconic: Voldemort in the Harry Potter films. He could easily pull off the sadistic nobleman traits of Straff. In a series filled with complex characters, Straff is clearly a bad man and is the sort of postured, conniving villain that Fiennes can play so well.
