Like all simulation sports games, MLB The Show 25 ranks its players in-game based on their performances in real life, and the game recently revealed the players who've earned a 99 OVR score in the game. They include only the best of the best, as the OVR maximum is 99 (outside of Diamond Dynasty). Earning a score this high takes incredible skill and an incredible performance, so there are many players who, despite their talent, didn't make the cut.

These OVR 99'ers will be must-picks for most Franchise players, and with everything we know so far about Franchise mode, it's shaping up to be a worthwhile investment of time. While managing your existing roster, keep an eye out for the best of the best trades that pop up as you GM your way to victory. While you may not agree with the three players who found their way onto the 99 overall rating list in The Show 25, there's no denying that these three players had an impressive 2024 season.

There Are Only 3 Players With 99 OVR In MLB The Show 25

They Include World Series Powerhouses

The 99 Overall Club for MLB The Show 25 includes Shohei Ohtani, Aaron Judge, and Juan Soto. Ohtani and Judge were shoe-ins for the spots, but the elusive third spot was a little up in the air for some. Soto makes sense, as he's been a consistent player his entire career and the '24 season saw his highest WAR yet, so he's a welcome addition to the top three. Another player that was theorized to be included in this list was Bobby Witt Jr., who led the league in WAR with a whopping 9.4.

You can try out MLB The Show 25 in Early Access starting March 14 if you pre-order the Digital Deluxe edition.

With the amount of talent in Major League Baseball right now, it's hard to definitively rank players in a way that translates well to a game. To calculate these scores, devs use a three-year average of each player's stats, then use those stats to rate each aspect of the player's style and competence, which gets combined to make the player's OVR. The specific calculations and comparisons change a bit depending on the player's position, but generally, the ratings are all math rather than just one person's judgment.

Both Judge and Ohtani landed in the 99 OVR club in MLB The Show 24 previously, but Soto is a new addition. Ohtani led the Dodgers to a World Series victory last year, contrary to a prediction made by a fan simulation in MLB The Show 24. Soto's up eight overall points from his 91 ranking in the previous game and his time with the New York Yankees, so it seems his time with the Mets during the 2024 season has earned him a higher score. Soto's stats for the 2024 season paint the picture; a respectable 7.9 WAR and 109 RBI make him a consistently valuable player to have on a team.

No one is shocked by Ohtani or Judge's inclusion in the 99 OVR club, but what, exactly, makes them good fits? With an MLB-record-breaking 59 bases stolen, and 54 home runs scored in one season, there was no way Ohtani was going to be anything other than the top of the leaderboard. Judge isn't one to sneeze at either; he led the American League in home runs and clinched the spot of AL MVP, so of course he's one of MLB The Show 25's top players.
