Guy Ritchie's new Paramount+ show, MobLand, sets its streaming release date. The show is described as a crime drama centering on two warring London families, with Hardy playing the fiercely loyal fixer for one of the clans. The show began life as an origin story spinoff of the Showtime series Ray Donovan, before evolving into a standalone project. The show will mark Ritchie's third foray into scripted television, after The Gentlemen season 2 was recently renewed, and will see Hardy reunite with the director after working together on Ritchie's 2008 crime caper RocknRolla.

Per Variety, the American crime drama will be titled MobLand and is set for a March 30 premiere on Paramount+. It co-stars Helen Mirren and Pierce Brosnan, who play the heads of the Harrigan family. The rest of the cast includes Paddy Considine, Joanne Froggatt, Lara Pulver, Daniel Betts, Anson Boon, Mandeep Dhillon, Jasmine Jobson, Geoff Bell, Emily Barber and Lisa Dawn. The show will premiere in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, and Australia on March 30, with a global rollout planned for later in the year.

What This News Means For MobLand

The Show Is Poised To Do Well On Paramount+

So far, Paramount+ has been slowly building a strong drama catalog, and MobLand could become another successful offering for the streaming platform. With a spring release date, star-studded cast, and an interesting premise, MobLand could become a long-term hit for Paramount+, and with Ritchie set to direct some of the episodes in the series, things look promising. This could be part of a conscious effort by Paramount+ to reduce an overreliance on Taylor Sheridan's shows, which, though highly successful and lucrative for the platform, have been dominating its original dramas.

Sheridan has so far created a total of six shows for Paramount+.

By teaming with filmmakers like Ritchie and developing a stellar cast, there is a very good chance the show can hit the ground running and be well-received. The beauty of streaming is that viewers will be able to catch up at their own pace, and MobLand could well be a show that thrives with this format. Despite the loose Ray Donovan connection, there is no indication MobLand will be tied to the Emmy Award-winning show, and it's more likely that the series will look to establish its own world and characters, with a potential peppering of Ritchie's signature style.

Our Take On MobLand And How It Will Be Received

The Cast & Ritchie's Involvement Should Score Another Hit For Paramount+

The show will be a gritty crime-drama, and while it will certainly share elements with Ray Donovan, the series is likely to have more British sensibilities. Paramount+ has shown itself to be proficient in its handling of crime dramas, and MobLand could be on for an early renewal, provided viewership is high, and the cast remain engaged. As one of the newer players in the streaming game, Paramount+ is looking to produce strong projects that will help it compete with Netflix and Prime Video, and MobLand is set to be a big step toward this.
