The latest episode of the end of episode 7. While the central storyline of episode 7 was Harry's frantic attempt to rescue Brendan and Seraphina Harrigan from the clutches of their kidnappers, several other important developments occurred. One of the most important involved Joann Froggatt's Jan Da Souza, who defied Conrad once again after doing the same in episode 6.
This time, though, there could be serious repercussions. Jan left the Harrigan manor to meet up with her friend Alice, who is an undercover informant for DS Fisk. Alice has been slowly getting closer and more intimate with Jan by mirroring her own problems, which has led to Jan opening up to her. In episode 7, Conrad has his other fixer Paul follow Jan into town when she meets Alice, and he confronts them after overhearing them talk about "killers and gangsters", clearly believing Jan was giving out Harrigan secrets.

Janet McTeer's MobLand Character Explained: Who Is Kat?
MobLand episode 7 saw Richie Stevenson strike a major blow against the Harrigans, but Janet McTeer’s new character stopped him from doing more.
Jan Trusting Alice Is Frustrating At This Point Of MobLand Season 1
We've Crossed The Point Of Suspending Disbelief
Jan and Alice's first few encounters were pretty awkward in how quickly they became friends, but for a while it was still fairly believable. A woman unhappy with her life and backed into a corner found common ground with someone of a similar age and with similar interests. You can see how she might jump in readily to a friendship quicker than one would normally think. But episode 7 is where the entire plot jumped the shark, and made me realize just how absurd it is that Jan still trusts Alice to the degree that she's displayed.
As both Conrad and Paul mention, Jan still barely knows Alice. Yet, at the height of a gang war with literal bodies dropping left and right, she leaves the relative safety of the Harrigan manor, which is all but a fortress at this point, and completely exposes herself in public just to have a chat with a friend needing a shoulder to cry on. She defies Conrad, who has already spoken to her about it and is pretty clearly unhinged at this point, all for the sake of a woman who isn't even being all that coy anymore in her quest for insider information.

Frankly, Jan just seems ignorant or willfully dense at this point. Alice isn't even masking her questions about Harry or even Conrad anymore, and you can plainly see/hear her driving the conversation in a particular direction. ittedly, the entirety of MobLand requires some suspension of disbelief; while a great show, thinking about many of the characters' decisions for too long will leave you confounded. However, Jan's story with Alice has gone so far off the rails that it's actively frustrating me.
Jan & Alice's Story Needs A Big Payoff - What Could Happen?
One (Or Both) Of The Two Women Could Meet An Unfortunate End
A payoff to this storyline is certainly coming, and coming soon. Jan and/or the Harrigans have to realize what Alice's endgame is, given how forthright she's starting to get with her prying questions. Knowing what happens to rats in the world of MobLand, it would seem that Alice's days are numbered, as Conrad would gladly kill her even if he wasn't as volatile as he's become thanks to Maeve and Richie's scheming. Alice being exposed and murdered would certainly speed up Fisk and Musaka's pursuit of the Harrigan crime empire, so this storyline could wind up extremely important.
Alice is played by English actress Emily Barber, best known for her roles in The Alienist (as Violet Hayward) and Bridgerton (as Tessa).
Jan also doesn't seem safe at this point either, and not because the Stevensons are after her. Maeve has been angling to throw the scent off herself as the rat in the Harrigan family, and Jan has done plenty that Maeve can (and has) point to with suspicion. Her leaving the rest of the family during a war, and getting caught talking about gangsters by Paul could very well be the nail in the coffin that Maeve needs to confirm her as the rat. With how frustrating the subplot has become and how much time has been dedicated to it, a MobLand finale resolution could be coming.
