Following the open beta, Infinity Ward has promised to address the footstep audio in hackers in the Modern Warfare 2 beta, something which has plagued practically every online game, as well as crashes forcing players to leave in the middle of a match and re parties.
Another concern raised was based on changes made to game mechanics, such as forcing players to obtain UAV from a kill streak or listen for opponents instead of being able to rely on red dots created by enemy fire. This has forced players to listen closely for opponent footsteps or gunfire when searching for enemies. This was put into effect to avoid punishing players for firing their weapon. However, not including perks like Ninja or Dead Silence from Warzone has also prevented players from hiding their footsteps when attempting to sneak around one of the maps or kill an opponent by meleeing them in the back.
According to a report by IGN, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will be balancing the audio from player footsteps before launching the title on October 28, 2022. Infinity Ward stated that while improved for the issue in week two of the beta it was still an issue that needed balancing before release. The company also addressed enemy visibility, as it had received reports that while visibility did improve in weekend two it was still lacking.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare To Work On Improving Issues From Beta
Those who were able to play the beta would note that the sound of both their own and enemies' footsteps were extremely loud when running around Modern Warfare 2's maps. While this could help locate enemies, it would also quickly reveal the player's location as well, allowing opponents to quickly hide or retaliate. There were also concerns of having difficulty differentiating friend from foe through means other than a nameplate, as many of the uniforms in game appear similar on both teams. Infinity Ward has stated these concerns will be addressed, but it is unknown to what extent the audio will be balanced and visibility increased until the game's full release.
Betas are released so that games can receive tweaks prior to a games full release. While this many issues in a beta can seem disheartening, there were some successes, such as the Modern Warfare 2 weapon progression system. Audio issues can be balanced, and visuals can be updated to better differentiate opponents. While there can be no definitive answer given to say what will or will not work and what actions will be taken, fans of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 can at least be sure that Infinity Ward is taking their into .
