A Nintendo insider claims that Monster Hunter will see multiple reveals at this year’s Game Awards. The latest entry in the series, Monster Hunter Rise, has been a massive success in the series, but the question of what type of game will release after Monster Hunter Rise is always on the horizon.

Monster Hunter Rise is currently scheduled to release an expansion in summer 2022 known as Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak. This paid expansion is similar to Monster Hunter World: Iceborne in that it will add a new quest rank, equipment, monsters, and much more. Not much is currently known about the Monster Hunter expansion aside from what was shown in the first teaser trailer, with the introduction of a new locale and the flagship elder dragon, Malzeno. But more details on what the expansion will contain will presumably be released in the future.

Well-known leaker Samus Hunter (via ComicBook.com) claims on Twitter that various Monster Hunter reveals have been moved to this year’s Game Awards. Samus Hunter did not elaborate on what exactly those reveals entailed, whether it had to do with a new game reveal or more information on Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak.  They also commented that Splatoon 3 should get more updates before the year is over and that December will have an Indie World showcase from Nintendo.

There are a variety of possibilities as to what type of Monster Hunter reveals the Game Awards could see. One possibility is the reveal of future crossover quests with other series, with the Sonic the Hedgehog collaboration quest to release very soon. A new game in the series is also possible, but this could also be the stream that will reveal more about Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak, such as more returning or new monsters. The crab-like monster Shogun Ceanataur was already shown as one of the returning monsters at 2021’s TGS.

There have also been debates as to whether the next Monster Hunter game will be on Nintendo or Playstation systems. Both Monster Hunter Rise and Monster Hunter World are among Capcom’s highest-selling titles on their respective systems, and the next Monster Hunter title could potentially swing either way. Though Monster Hunter World is still Capcom’s highest sold game as of September 2021 at 17.5 million sales. A potential sequel to Monster Hunter World would likely sell just as much if not more. As with all rumors, this should be taken with a grain of salt, but in the event, new information on Monster Hunter is released, fans should tune in to the Game Awards to see what Capcom might have in store.
