More footage of Monster Hunter Rise was showcased at this year's Tokyo Gaming Show. Hunters in the next entry of the Monster Hunter series will be decked out with all kinds of new abilities and tools to use when slaying monsters. The starring mechanic of Monster Hunter Rise is a new tool called the Wirebug, in which players will be able to not only reach new terrains by zipping around the map, but it will also be able to be used offensively in conjunction with weapon attacks.
Of course, many new monsters will also be featured in this next entry, the flagship monster being a rideable Palamute will also have amiibo that will be released alongside the game. These amiibo will unlock certain in-game layered armor when tapped on a Nintendo Switch controller.
At this year's Tokyo Game Show, a new trailer for Monster Hunter Rise was ed on debut trailer from the Nintendo Direct Mini, but there are approximately 18 seconds worth of new footage. This includes various weapon attacks using the Wirebug, some of the endemic life in the new Shrine Ruins map, and another brief shot of the unnamed new arachnid monster. Some more hunter voice clips were also revealed, mainly that of female hunters. But perhaps the most exciting shot was the hunter pulling out a large barrel bomb in the air before dunking it on the monster's face.
The new attacks hunters will be able to pull off with the Wirebug isn't the first instance of hunters going aerial. Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate on the Switch featured various hunting styles that hunters could use with their weapons, one of these being aerial style. This style allowed hunters to do jumping attacks with their weapons in order to increase the odds of mounting the monster. There's also alchemy style, which is a ive style involving alchemy barrels to create special items. This new aerial barrel bomb attack appears to be some sort of combination of aspects from these two styles.
Monster Hunter Generations may have first introduced aerial combat, but Monster Hunter Rise is going all out with the concept. Players will be able to zip all around their foes and do all kinds of fancy moves thanks to the Wirebug, which is just one reason fans are excited for Monster Hunter Rise. The game will have a long life ahead of it, so fans can look forward to the release of the game next year.
Monster Hunter Rise arrives exclusively for Nintendo Switch on March 26th, 2021.
