The sixth installment of the Monster Hunter franchise, Monster Hunter Rise uses several features introduced in the previous game, Monster Hunter: World. Set in the Kamura village, the game features many returning monsters and nine new creations that stand as some of the franchise's most inspired and fiercest creations.
Out of all the creatures in the game, some certainly outrank others in of strength and power. From the Great Izuchi to the fearsome Diablos, these creatures will provide a tough challenge for the titular player. Furthermore, they're all available in both Low and High-rank hunts, which means players can fight them even before reaching Hunter Rank 4.
Updated on April 22nd, 2022, by David Caballero: Monster Hunter Rise was a critical and commercial success, cementing the series as one of Capcom's most popular and acclaimed. One year after its release, the Sunbreak DLC will arrive in June 2022, centering on the Elder Dragon Malzeno while featuring additional monsters -- including iterations from previous games -- quests, weapons, armor, and story elements. And with even more monsters to fight and fights to overcome, players will face new challenges that will put their skills as monster hunters to the test.
Anjanath
First introduced in Monster Hunter: World, the Anjanath is a Brute Wyvern that resembles a T-Rex. Far from one of the cutest monsters in Monster Hunter Rise, the Anhanath is hostile and aggressive, attacking anything without hesitation or concern. Its strong jaw, capable of ripping its enemies apart, becomes even more dangerous when coupled with its deathly ability to breathe fire.
Anjanath is naturally weak to Water, meaning it's not the hardest monster to beat in Monster Hunter Rise. Anjanath, a threat-level six monster, inhabits several locations, including the Shrine Ruins, Flooded Forest, Lava Caverns, and Sandy Plains.
Nargacuga
A flying wyvern, the Nargacuga made its debut in Monster Hunter: Freedom Unite. These creatures adapted to living in wooded areas, stalking their prey from the shadows and launching at them with surprising speed.
Cunning and cautious, these creatures live in dark places and have extremely strong muscles. They can attack with every part of their bodies, although their tail and wings are particularly dangerous. Far from the hardest monster in the series, the Nargacuga species is vulnerable to Thunder and Fire, weaknesses players can easily exploit. The Nargacuga roam the Flooded Forest and the Shrine Ruins, awaiting hunters to challenge.
Mizutsune
Mizutsune is a particularly evolved Leviathan with a long, slender body. Unlike other of its species, it has fur on its body. The Mizutsune isn't particularly aggressive but can get rather violent during mating season, giving Hunters the difficult task of dealing with them.
Graceful in both design and behavior, the Mizutsune resembles some of the best dragons in anime, literature and film. It inhabits the Shrine Ruins, Frost Islands, and Flooded Forest and has a threat level of six, meaning it's not one of Monster Hunter Rise's hardest monsters to beat. Its element is water, making it vulnerable to Thunder, although it's also weak to Dragon.
Zinogre
Zinogre are Fanged Wyverns with electricity-streaked bodies. They live in mountainous terrains, where their strong limbs and sharp claws allow them to wreak havoc. It has the unique ability to charge itself by summoning Thunderbugs and harnessing their electricity.
A level six threat, Zinogre are solitary and aggressive. They'll attack on sight, so players need to approach cautiously or else an otherwise straightforward battle will become unnecessarily difficult. The Zinogre roams the Shrine Ruins and the Flooded Forest.
Rathalos
One of the oldest and most iconic species in the franchise, Rathalos are fan favorites, with many pieces of Monster Hunter fan art devoted to them. Known as the "King of the Skies," Rathalos are terrifying wyverns who rapidly descend from considerable heights and attack their prey. Their fiery breaths are particularly menacing, but their poison claws can also be lethal.
Despite their might, Rathalos have many weaknesses, including Ice, Water, Dragon, and Thunder elements. They can be some of the hardest monsters to handle, but experienced players will have no issue dealing with them. Rathalos inhabit the Shrine Ruins and the Lava Caverns.
Tigrex
Violent and a bit of a show-off, Tigrex are prone to aggressive displays of power. They will intimidate their attackers with a loud and menacing roar. Like other wyverns, they'll travel great lengths in search of prey. Tigrex can harness different elements depending on the environment they occupy, making them one of the most versatile species in the game.
Tigrex are level seven threats, and players might find them troublesome even if they're not the hardest monsters in Monster Hunter: Rise, The Tigrex species roam the Frost Islands, the Sandy Plains, and the Lava Caverns, and their distinctive color scheme makes them easy to find.
Almudron
Almudron is one of the new monsters introduced in Monster Hunter Rise. It spends a long time lurking in the mud until it's time to attack its prey. Almudron's tail oozes a golden liquid capable of dissolving the ground below, using this method to trap its prey and drag them to the depths. Almudron will overproduce this golden ooze when enraged.
A Leviathan clearly inspired by Chinese dragons, Almudron uses its heavy scorpion-like tail like a wrecking ball. It can be one of the hardest monsters to beat thanks to its dirty tactics in battle; however, Almudron keeps things interesting and is one of the many reasons why Monster Hunter Rise is one of the best games in the franchise. It is a level seven threat, and its habitats are the Shrine Ruins, Sandy Plains, and the Flooded Forest.
Magnamalo
Another monster introduced in Monster Hunter Rise, Magnamalo is one of the best designed and lore-filled new creations. Cunning and restless, Magnamalo's violence earned it the title of "Wyvern of Malice." The vapor coming out of its body is actually gas expelled from the hordes of monsters it has consumed.
Magnamalo will fire projectiles during battle, making it one of the hardest monsters to beat in Monster Hunter Rise. A level seven threat, it will produce mysterious purple flames from its mouth, back, tail, and forelegs. Its habitat is the Shrine Ruins and the Lava Caverns.
Diablos
Wildly aggressive, Diablos may very well be the most dangerous monsters in Monster Hunter Rise, despite being herbivores. They feed on several cacti found in the desert yet have no problem attacking and chasing any intruder in their territory.
Known as "the Tyrant of the desert," Diablos can bury underground. Like the worms in the Best Picture-nominated blockbuster Dune, Diablos strike from below and end things with one decisive bite. A level seven threat, Diablos have been around since the first Monster Hunter game and made their live-action debut in the recent movie adaptation.
Goss Harag
The main threat of the newly introduced monsters, the Goss Harag is a terrifying creature that dwells in ice-cold climates. Covered in thick fur and capable of turning its arms into ice blades, Goss Harag is the hardest monster to beat in the entire game.
This dangerous Fanged Beast can also fire an icy blast, making it all the more terrifying; still, its challenging battle is one of the biggest pros to playing Monster Hunter Rise. A level seven threat, Goss Harag inhabits the Frost Islands, where it patiently waits for a worthy opponent.
