only 47% of the reviews for Monster Hunter Wilds remain positive, with complaints levied at technical issues relating to performance and crashing, among others.
As for the crashing, while not everyone is experiencing it (we didn't on PS5, as seen in our Monster Hunter Wilds review), those that are report occurrences every few hours, or sometimes multiple times per hour. Nothing kills the vibe quite like crashing, so if you're frustrated and looking for solutions, you've come to the right place.

Best Solutions For Crashing In Monster Hunter Wilds
Compatibility Mode And Driver Changes Can Go A Long Way
Crashing can occur both at startup and during gameplay. Either way, there is some overlap in the fixes, which range from Compatibility Mode changes to updating drivers, and everything in between. With any luck, this is a short-term problem, but either way, review scores for Monster Hunter Wilds don't seem to have been affected much, in contrast to the scores.
These fixes are primarily aimed at PC players. If experiencing crashes on console, try using Performance Mode.
One of the fixes that works for most players is changing the Compatibility Mode. To do this, right click the game in Steam, then go Properties > Installed Files > Browse. Once in the game folder, find the game executable (it should read something like 'MH Wilds.exe'), right click it, then go Properties > Compatibility. Click the 'Run this program in compatibility mode for' box, then select your operating system of choice. Windows 7 mode has been reported to work for some, but you can try the other options as well if that doesn't work for you (or to see if you can get even better results).
Another popular fix is to simply update your graphics drivers, which you can do via the websites below. Which you should choose depends on the GPU you have. If you're unsure, type 'System Information' in Windows search and click the icon that pops up. Then click Components > Display and look for the 'Name' row — what you see under value there will tell you what GPU you have.
Clean Install is always the best option if available, and if you want to get into the nitty gritty, you can try Display Driver Uninstaller to fully clean things out. This tool will ensure any bits that've been left over by NVIDIA or whoever will be wiped clean, and that you have a truly fresh start. In other words, if this doesn't do the trick, the issue isn't your drivers.
Apart from that, the general advice applies: lower your graphics settings, which can include disabling Frame Generation (although some say enabling Frame Generation works for them). If using the High Res Texture Pack, consider uninstalling it. Also, disable any overclocks on your hardware.
If all that fails (or only alleviates the issue), there are a couple of more things you can try, although they are unlikely to work or are a little risky. First: your game files. To do this, right click the game in Steam and go to Installed Files, then click ' integrity of game files'. It will take a little while to re- your game files and make sure everything is in working order.

Capcom Responds With Fix After Monster Hunter Wilds PC Issues Lead To Unhappy Players & "Mixed" Steam Rating
Monster Hunter Wilds launched today with mixed reviews pouring in after PC players were plagued with issues, but Capcom has responded.
The second option is to increase your Virtual Memory. This is bit complex and more of a serious change, so do so at your own risk. Type 'Advanced' into Windows search, then click the 'Settings' button under 'Performance'. Click the 'Advanced' tab, then 'Change' under 'Virtual memory'. Uncheck the 'Automatically manage paging file size for all drivers' button at the top, then click 'OK' at the bottom. This may work because Wilds has issues with VRAM that cause crashing.
You'll want to revert the Virtual memory change once you're done with Monster Hunter Wilds, or once it's no longer experiencing crashes without this setting.
How To Report Crashes And Use The Crash Reporter
When All Else Fails, Tell Capcom!
If after all this you're still experiencing crashing, your best bet is to report what happened to the developer. To do that, head to their customer page, and provide them with your hardware information.
- U name & model
- Name/model of the desktop or laptop (if available)
- Graphics card / chip model and the amount of VRAM
- Video driver version number
- System memory size
- OS version (Windows 10, 11, etc. Please make special note in your specs if you are running Windows "N" and "K" editions that do not come with Windows Media Player.)
- Anti-virus software name and version
- Your monitor and/or HDTV model number (if using multiple displays, please provide all make and model numbers)
- HDMI cable brand and model number (if available). Please confirm whether your HDMI cable is certified or compatible with 4K and HDR.
- Your region (continent and/or country)
The easiest way to provide a lot of this information is to run a DXDiag report. To do that, simply type 'dxdiag' into Windows search and click the icon that appears. Then once past the signage screen, click 'Save All Information'. Then, attach it on the Capcom Customer site (from wherever you saved it). You'll also need a copy of your graphics settings, which can be found in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\MonsterHunterWilds. Copy the file there and prepare to it just the same way.

Monster Hunter Wilds Roap: All Confirmed Updates For 2025
Monster Hunter Wilds has already revealed some of its post-launch content, gearing up for a full year of exciting updates and new challenges to face.
The next step is to provide as many details about the issue and the steps that led to it as possible:
Please share your specific issue and the location(s) where you’re experiencing the issues – for example, if you’re having problems with the framerate, is it happening constantly, or is it during certain modes, during gameplay, etc.? The following information can greatly help as well:
- Have you confirmed you’ve met at least the minimum system requirements for the game (See Step 1 in the Troubleshooting Guide)?
- Where and when did the issue occur?
- What were the character(s) doing when this issue occurred?
- Did the issue resolve itself when you rebooted the game?
Please also have screenshots or video of your issue ready to attach in your response (if available). If you have a video, please to YouTube as an unlisted video and share the link with us.
*If the file size is too large, please let us know when submitting your ticket.
D) Detailed reproduction steps, if consistently reproducible
The more detailed info you can provide, the quicker the error can be attempted to be reproduced and investigated.
The final step is to locate your crash report in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\MonsterHunterWilds (a button that leads you to this location should appear when the report is generated). Look for a .zip file with the date and time you experienced the crash.
Hopefully you don't need to resort to Customer to fix your crashing issues in Monster Hunter Wilds, but in case you do, it should at least be a comfort knowing you're speeding up the process it takes to fix the issue on the developer end.
