Returning in Monster Hunter Wilds as one of the game's final hunts, Gore Magala is a fast and aggressive monster that can pose some significant challenges, especially for new players. First introduced as the flagship monster of Monster Hunter 4, Gore Magala is a fan-favorite for many veterans of the franchise, and has since appeared in Monster Hunter Generations, Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak, and now again in Wilds.

An important mechanic to keep in mind when facing Gore Magala in Monster Hunter Wilds is the Frenzy Virus, a status condition inflicted by many of its attacks. While hunters are inflicted with Frenzy, a small purple bar will be visible at the top right of the screen, putting the player on a timer. Dealing enough damage before the bar fills up clears the status and rewards the hunter with extra Affinity, but failing to do so causes the afflicted hunter to take more damage from attacks and steadily lose health. This makes dealing effective damage especially important.

All Gore Magala Weaknesses In Monster Hunter Wilds

Gore Magala's Weakpoints And Elemental Weaknesses In Monster Hunter Wilds

Fortunately, Gore Magala has clear weaknesses for you to exploit. As usual, its head will be the weakest point for most damage types, with its forelegs and tail also providing good targets in of non-elemental damage for raw weapons. For weapons that rely more on elemental damage, like Dual Blades, the head is still a prime target, but Gore Magala's large wingarms are also especially weak to elemental damage. In of elemental weaknesses, Gore Magala is generally weakest to Fire, but also vulnerable to Dragon and, to a lesser extent, Thunder.

Monster Hunter Wilds Review: Heading In A Bold New Direction, With One Or Two Missteps

Monster Hunter Wilds is a lushly beautiful and ceaselessly thrilling entry in the series, but its performance and on-rails story can be distracting.

For blunt damage and ranged weapons, options are somewhat narrower, as targeting the head will far outstrip hitting anywhere else, unless there's a wound to exploit. Gore can also be afflicted with any status, but isn't especially vulnerable to any of them. Regardless of damage type, take special note of when Gore Magala becomes enraged, extending two horn-like antennas from its head. The antennas are by far the weakest part of its body, and should be the priority target whenever they're exposed.

Notably, targeting the antennas isn't just optimal in of damage: hitting them enough will knock Gore Magala out of its dangerous enraged state, and breaking them will net you materials that are otherwise very difficult to obtain. In of weapon choice, while my main weapon is the Greatsword, I tend to prefer faster and more mobile weapons for hunting Gore Magala, like the Dual Blades, Sword & Shield, Insect Glaive, or Bow. Enough skill can make any weapon work, but I find these weapons help me keep up with Gore's aggression and mobility.

Although, in of elemental damage, Gore Magala is generally weakest to Fire, its antennas are actually slightly weaker to Dragon, so players confident in their ability to consistently hit the head while it's enraged should opt for a Dragon-element weapon instead.

Whatever weapon you use, Gore Magala is most vulnerable when it's enraged; aside from the exposed antenna, the monster's tail and wingarms will also be much easier to hit, and can be somewhat safer targets than the antenna. While the monster isn't enraged, its large wings (which aren't especially weak to any damage type) can often eat hits not targeted directly at its face, making it difficult to target parts like the tail or forearms.
