Unlocking and beating the Kut-Ku Gone Cuckoo event in returning monsters in Monster Hunter Wilds. Yian Kut-Ku is a Bird Wyvern that appears normally in the game.
However, this is a special event-exclusive version of the same monster. There aren’t too many differences from its regular form, but hunting it through the event quest could net you some extra rewards. To take advantage of the additional items you can get through the Kut-Ku Gone Cuckoo event, you will first need to know how to unlock it and, ideally, prepare yourself for a hunt that is not as tough as Guardian Arkveld in Monster Hunter Wilds, but that can be gruesome depending on some factors like the environment and monster behavior.
How To Unlock & Start The Kut-Ku Gone Cuckoo Event
There Are Hunter Rank Requirements To Tackle The Hunt
To gain access to the Kut-Ku Gone Cuckoo event, you will first need to reach Hunter Rank 9. This event is locked for hunters below that rank and, as such, you can only participate if you are HR 9 or higher. If this prerequisite is accomplished, you will be able to tackle the quest. Once you’ve unlocked it, you’ll need to pick up the Kut-Ku Gone Cuckoo quest. In order to do so, you’ll need to talk to Alma, your Handler, and access the Event Quests tab in the roster provided by her in Monster Hunter Wilds.

Monster Hunter Wilds Review: Heading In A Bold New Direction, With One Or Two Missteps
Monster Hunter Wilds is a lushly beautiful and ceaselessly thrilling entry in the series, but its performance and on-rails story can be distracting.
There, you should see the Kut-Ku Gone Cuckoo Event Quest and, if you are able to, you can accept the contract and start the hunt. Like most other quests, you will be given the option to accept the quest and initiate it or accept it and prepare yourself, either crafting items, having a meal, or changing your weapon to face the Yian Kut-Ku. Once this is done, and you start, you will be sent to the Forest map in Monster Hunter Wilds, where you will initiate your hunt for the Bird Wyvern.
Every Way You Can Fail Kut-Ku Gone Cuckoo Event
Fainting Too Much Could Have You Reset The Hunt
This particular event is not punishing compared to any other quest in the game. As seen in the Event Quest’s summary, there are two conditions that cause you to fail the Kut-Ku Gone Cuckoo event. The first of them is if the time for the hunt expires before you successfully take down the Yian Kut-Ku. You have 50 minutes to complete the event once you initiate the hunt for the Yian Kut-Ku in the Kut-Ku Gone Cuckoo quest, which is the same time limit that you would normally have for the majority of your quests in Monster Hunter Wilds.

Monster Hunter Wilds Is Missing My Favorite Series Tradition, & I Don't Care If It Makes Sense
Monster Hunter Wilds feels like a brand new era for the series, tampering with old traditions, although it misses one that I wish Capcom would add.
The second condition that could make you fail the Kut-Ku Gone Cuckoo event is if you faint three times during the hunt. This condition is shared among your party, so if you are tackling the hunt in multiplayer and any of the hunters partaking in the activity faint, this takes away from the faint pool. This is the same condition applied to most other hunts, too. If you fail the Kut-Ku Gone Cuckoo event, you will return to one of your camps. From there, you can speak to Alma and try the event in Monster Hunter Wilds once more.
Where To Find & Beat Yian Kut-Ku
The Bird Wyvern Is Frail, But It’s Aggressive & Can Use Allies
This particular hunt is located in the Forest map, so once you depart on the quest, you will be taken to the base in that region. The Yian Kut-Ku that you are hunting should be targeted automatically like any other quest, so you simply need to mount your Seikret and allow your mount to move to the creature’s location for you. As was mentioned, this Bird Wyvern is not too tough, however, its lack of sturdiness is compensated for by a few characteristics in its moveset and behavior in Monster Hunter Wilds.

10 Essential Beginner Tips If Monster Hunter Wilds Is Your First MH Game
Monster Hunter Wilds is set to be one of the most ambitious titles in the series, but beginners may struggle to find their way forward without advice.
The Yian Kut-Ku is an agile monster with an annoying amount of range and swiftness in its moves. This Bird Wyvern is extremely aggressive and will not only try to attack you with its beak and tail but throw itself at you as it charges across small areas multiple times. Furthermore, the Yian Kut-Ku also spits fireballs quite rapidly, which can afflict you with Fireblight and quickly eat through your health – to get rid of the condition, you need to simply roll on the ground a few times or consume a Nulberry.
This condition, which is also applied by the Quematrice in Monster Hunter Wilds, will be dispelled after a single roll on the ground if you do it in a wet area – which is often abundant in the Forest map.
While the Yian Kut-Ku is particularly frail across most of its body except for its legs, you should try to optimize your damage by hitting specific areas depending on the type of weapon you are wielding. If you are using severing damage (also known as slashing damage), its torso, wings, and tail take the most damage from your weapon. If you are using blunt damage, such as that offered by a Hammer, target its head and torso. Shot damage from ranged weapons is best against its head, torso, and wings in Monster Hunter Wilds.
When it comes to elements, the strongest ones to wield are Ice and Thunder, which tend to deal the most damage against the Yian Kut-Ku. I took on the activity with no issues using a G. Veldian Ensis, a Long Sword that deals Dragon damage, even if this elemental type doesn’t do much against the majority of the monster’s body parts, so don’t feel pressured to swap out your go-to weapon in Monster Hunter Wilds to beat the Kut-Ku Gone Cuckoo event.

Monster Hunter Wilds Might Be Better Off With Even More Cutscenes
Monster Hunter Wilds is far more story-heavy than previous entries, but, despite featuring a lot of cutscenes, it could do with implementing more.
Aside from its aggressive moveset, one thing to look out for when hunting the Yian Kut-Ku is that this creature often reunites with others of its kind. During the hunt, when it changes locations, there is a chance that it will end up in an area with more Yian Kut-Ku. Trying to face the target of your hunt while being attacked by three of them at once can be extremely chaotic and can easily accelerate the rate at which you faint – putting you at risk of failing the Kut-Ku Gone Cuckoo event.
The best way to deal with the group is to fire a Large Dung Pod at the group, a similar strategy used to disperse other Doshaguma while facing the Alpha Doshaguma in Monster Hunter Wilds. This will cause the other Yian Kut-Ku to flee and allow you to focus on your target – or at least, make your target flee to a more secluded area where you can follow them and face them alone. Overall, the special Kut-Ku Gone Cuckoo event is fairly easy to complete.
All Kut-Ku Gone Cuckoo Event Rewards
You Can Farm Several Key Items From The Event Quest
With this event, you have a chance to obtain several rewards, most of which are related to Yian Kut-Ku. These rewards are not all guaranteed, as they have drop rates, so if you’re looking for something in particular, you may have to tackle the Kut-Ku Gone Cuckoo event multiple times to try and farm it. The list below shows all the possible rewards for hunting the Yian Kut-Ku during the event:
- Yian Kut-Ku Certificate S
- Kut-Ku Scale+
- Kut-Ku Carapace
- Kut-Ku Wing
- Kut-Ku Ear
- Giant Beak
- Inferno Sac
- Bird Wyvern Gem
- Mimiphyta Ticket
- Monster Keenbone
- Advanced Armor Sphere
- Mystery Orb - Sword
- Mystery Orb - Armor
Yian Kut-Ku’s armor and weapons are not the strongest in the game, but it does provide some valuable items like the Inferno Sac, Bird Wyvern Gem, and Advanced Armor Sphere, all of which could enhance your performance in the game depending on the builds you are looking at. I’d recommend taking advantage of the Kut-Ku Gone Cuckoo event to try and farm items such as these so that you can steadily progress into higher Hunter Ranks in Monster Hunter Wilds with what is arguably an easy hunt to complete.
