Monster Hunter Wilds has a large roster of monsters Large and Small, giving you a wide ecology of creatures to study and hunt in various habitats. Each monster you encounter has varying levels of difficulty, from incredibly fragile Endemic life to massive beasts capable of great destruction. The requirements to face each monster in the game is different, as you must reach certain parts of the story to meet them.
Unless you are responding to an S.O.S. in Monster Hunter Wilds' online multiplayer, most of the monsters you discover will be through the main story. During each Chapter of both the Low-Rank and High-Rank story, you'll face off against new monsters threatening the ecosystem of various regions. You unlock Quests for monsters throughout the story once you encounter them for the first time.

Progress Through Assignments To Find New Monsters
Monsters can be broken down into two categories - Large and Small. Endemic life are additional tiny creatures that can be found throughout different maps, but "monsters" are defined as any creature that is large enough to impact an ecosystem. This can range from the Small Ceratonoth herds you find in the Windward Plains to the massive Alpha Doshaguma in Monster Hunter Wilds you can find in the same area.
