If this seems like a ripe setting for Geralt of Rivia, The Witcher developer CD Projekt Red agrees. Capcom announced a partnership with The Witcher developer to bring Geralt into Monster Hunter: World as a playable character. Not only that, but when playing Geralt, players will experience RPG elements similar to that of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, as well as be able to use Geralt's unique fighting style that combines swords with magic.
Geralt is no stranger to hunting down monsters, so his appearance in Monster Hunter: World makes sense. In The Witcher games, Geralt traverses a high fantasy world where he must often slay these kinds of creatures. Geralt has enhanced genes that give him skills that assist in tracking, hunting and killing monsters. In his last outing, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Geralt had to fight beasts while hunting down his adopted daughter, Ciri. That title received universal acclaim from fans and critics alike, and since its release in 2016, the title has sold over 33 million copies worldwide.
This isn't the first time Geralt has made a cameo appearance in a video game. He was also a guest character in Soulcalibur 6. However, with his story ending with Wild Hunt, Monster Hunter: World is offering Witcher fans one more chance to revisit the beloved character in a setting that perfectly fits him and his story. Expect to find Geralt in Monster Hunter: World on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in early 2019. Monster Hunter: World will also get a major expansion called "Iceborn" in the fall of 2019.
