Warning! Spoilers for Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong #5 ahead! The MonsterVerse might be the home of numerous Titans, but only one can be held up as its 'hero'. The kaiju are still in the DC Universe and many of them are making a mess. But with the Justice League in trouble, the team's only hope might rely on the only Monarch-approved Titan.
In Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong #5 by Brian Buccellato, Christian Duce, and Tom Derenick, the Justice League is spread thin all over the world as the Titans continue to run rampant across the DCU. As Superman recovers from his fight with Godzilla, the rest of the Justice League tries to form a proper plan.
Cyborg retrieves Monarch's files that Lois Lane acquired from Mercy Graves and relays the information to Batman. Cyborg informs Batman that Supergirl has gone to look for Kong, the only Titan Monarch implies is anything close to a 'good guy'.
Kong is the True Hero of the MonsterVerse
The Titans were happy enough in their home universe, but thanks to the Legion of Doom and the Dreamstone, the oversized monsters have been brought to the DC Universe to run amok. Iconic DC locations like Gotham City and Themyscira have been overrun by powerful monsters, including Godzilla, who immediately picked a fight with Superman. Since the Titans arrived, the Justice League has been doing everything in its power to reign in the mighty monsters. But Titans like Tiamat and Scylla have proven to be a tough match for heroes as strong as Cyborg or Green Lantern.
It's understandable why Kong has been designated a 'good guy' by Monarch. In the films, Kong prefers solitude and only attacks when he's provoked. This extends to the crossover, where he doesn't try to hurt Supergirl until she punches him. Kong also has a history of developing bonds with humans, especially in the MonsterVerse, where he's actively protected people in need. For much of Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong, Kong has spent it on Skull Island, uninterested in the rest of the DC Universe. But Kong could be the only way of restoring normalcy to the DC Universe.
The Justice League Needs Kong to Bring in the Other Titans
The MonsterVerse movies pointed out that the Titans generally respond to the leadership of 'alpha' Titans. Unfortunately, Godzilla's too obsessed with getting rid of Superman to balance out the Earth. But Kong is far more amenable and could potentially work with the League to reign in the other Titans. Monarch has observed Kong for decades and they know he's got a primal sense of good and evil. If the Justice League can find some way of getting the MonsterVerse's Kong to work with them, then the DC Universe has a shot at surviving this gargantuan crossover.
