Warning: SPOILERS for Moon Knight episode 3

Marvel Studios drops a big clue about Marc Spector's third identity in multiple alters that exist within Marc Spector's body. While Moon Knight has not shied away from the vigilante's penchant for violence, a third and even more violent alter has now been teased.

Moon Knight episodes 1 and 2 primarily focused on Steven Grant, a bumbling Englishman who works at a museum gift shop and is quite knowledgeable about ancient Egyptian mythology. Steven highlights that he doesn't always feel in control as he chains himself to his bed and takes other precautions to ensure he doesn't do anything while he's sleeping. He slowly comes to realize that he often loses control of his body to his alter Marc Spector. Marc is a former mercenary and the current Avatar of the Egyptian moon god Khonshu. Their battle for control of the body is one of the most fascinating elements of Moon Knight, especially as they argue about who should be in control.

Moon Knight's alters do not end with Steven Grant and Marc Spector in the show, just as they do not in the comics. While Moon Knight has mostly explained mysteries about which alter was in control at different times, there have been a few moments that don't exactly add up with what Steven and Marc would do or how they'd act. Moon Knight episode 3 now delivers the biggest tease yet: that a third alter is part of the main character in Moon Knight. It is through this moment that the MCU may have just secretly introduced the Jake Lockley alter.

How Moon Knight Episode 3 Introduces A Third Identity

Moon Knight 5 multiple personalities

The moment in question regarding Marc Spector's third identity comes at the conclusion of an action scene in Moon Knight episode 3. Marc Spector spends the beginning of the episode chasing down some of Arthur Harrow's followers. Steven interrupts the fighting by momentarily taking control and trying to convince Marc to ease up on the violence. After catching back up to Harrow's followers, Steven's continued intervening results in Marc getting knocked unconscious. However, when he awakes, he is covered in blood and has a dead Harrow follower in his grasp. Marc immediately begins to question Steven about what he's done, but Steven justifiably denies that he'd do this.

While Marc has been shown to be violent and accepts the idea that he'll occasionally kill people in Khonshu's name, the brutality teased here doesn't fit with his character, and his shocked reaction to it confirms this wasn't his doing. Meanwhile, Steven would never do something like this based on how Moon Knight has portrayed him. Since the two main alters are seemingly not responsible for killing this man, Marvel appears to have confirmed a secret third alter identity for Moon Knight's central character who is even more violent.

Is Marc Spector’s Third Identity Jake Lockley?

Based on the original comics, Moon Knight's secret third alter could be the MCU's take on Jake Lockley. He is the second most prominent alter that Marc Spector has in the comics. Jake Lockley is traditionally portrayed as a tough cabbie in New York. This personality is meant to act as the character's detective side. Through his work as a cab driver, Jake Lockley builds a group of informants from whom he can get useful information. One of these is a man living on the streets named Crawley, who Moon Knight reimagined as a street statue performer who Steven visits frequently. Since the MCU has already introduced Steven Grant and Marc Spector, it makes sense that the next alter that could be introduced is Jake Lockley.

However, Jake Lockley is not defined in the comics as being a more violent alter. While Jake has been violent in the past as needed, to say that he's more brutal than Marc or Steven is not necessarily true. But it is important to that Marvel makes changes like this all the time. Marvel Studios has already made several changes to Moon Knight's alters during the beginning of the show. In the comics, Steven Grant is a millionaire who funds Moon Knight's adventures in the comics, not an Egyptian mythology enthusiast with a British accent.

Due to the MCU's changes to Moon Knight's character, it would make some sense for Jake Lockley to emerge as a more violent alter. Marvel Studios surely wants the character's most prominent alter to be the most heroic in of fighting ability and morality. While Steven is a bit too ive to be a crime fighter, Jake Lockley could be the darkest parts of the Moon Knight character. The restraint shown by Marc and Steven would help to explain why it was tougher for this alter to take control, hence why Moon Knight hasn't shown him so far.

Jake Lockley Could Explain Khonshu’s Interest In Marc

Marc Spector's potential Jake Lockley alter could explain why Khonshu is so invested in keeping Marc alive too. Moon Knight episode 2 mentions that Khonshu will do whatever it takes to protect Marc and that he's worth the effort, even though the Egyptian god repeatedly threatens to replace him. There has been nothing to indicate what makes Marc Spector so special for Khonshu. He is a skilled fighter, but he also clearly doesn't always agree with Khonshu's methods. It's possible that the moon god is so interested in Marc because he wants to pull at his mind until the darkest parts of him emerge more frequently, allowing Jake Lockley to work in tandem with Khonshu's plans.

If Jake Lockley is Marc Spector's third alter and more violent, Khonshu would understandably be interested in bringing this alter out more frequently. Whereas Steven often refuses to help Khonshu and Marc is only doing it to fulfill his debt, Jake might enjoy delivering vengeance on the behalf of the Egyptian god. In that case, Jake Lockley could be similar to Arthur Harrow, as Ethan Hawke's villain its at the end of Moon Knight episode 3 that he loved the violence. That could make the Moon Knight character's third alter all the more important, as Jake Lockley could either teach Marc Spector how to defeat Harrow or be the only one willing to do what must be done to stop Ammit's return.
