In a look ahead at Marvel's future, Iron Man armor - but far from becoming the ultimate hero, the Fist of Khonshu will now be a powerful villain. The armor is coming in December's issue of TIMELESS - Marvel's annual look ahead into the future, setting up story details for the year ahead.
TIMELESS will see two iconic Marvel heroes locked in battle at the end of time: Power Man (now possessing the powers of the Sentry, the Hulk, and Iron First) vs Moon Knight (now with the powers of Iron Man, the Eternals, and - in a newly released cover shared by Newsarama - Doctor Strange's Eye of Agamotto, which appears to be powering his armor.) In an awesome touch, Moon Knight's Iron Man armor surrounds his power source with the phases of the moon.
This awesome art by InHyuk Lee gives fans the best look yet at Moon Knight's new StarkTech armor. While Power Man appears to be an elderly Luke Cage, anyone could be under Moon Knight's new helmet - Khonshu has created many, many Moon Knights over the years, with most willing to commit terrible evils in the moon god's name. Coming from Collin Kelly, Jackson Lanzing, and Juann Cabal, the issue's official synopsis reads:
In a devastating future born from the choices of today, all of time and space is threatened by the ascension of an ancient evil. The Immortal Moon Knight has risen - a nightmare borne of StarkTech, the Eternal Machine, and the God of the Moon - and now all of Earth bows before his overwhelming power! But one man stands against Khonshu's coming tide of chaos: Power Man, the Marvel Universe's final living super hero. But who is Power Man - and how did he come to wield the unstable powers of the Sentry, the Hulk, and the Iron Fist? What dark, deeply personal conflict underpins this mind-bending apocalypse? And at the end of the line, can the Marvel Universe ever truly be saved?
The "Eternal Machine" is from Eternals lore, and is an artificial intelligence installed into the Earth itself by the Celestials. It manages several details of the Eternals' powers on Earth, allowing them to teleport, create spaces outside normal reality, and resurrect upon death. Only the 100 original Eternals and Thanos are able to connect to it, suggesting something very drastic has occurred to include Moon Knight.

Iron Man Is the New Moon Knight, as Tony Stark Becomes the Servant of Anubis
In a Marvel Universe overrun by zombies, Iron Man becomes the newest avatar for Anubis and wreaks absolute havoc as an undead spreader of the virus.
Moon Knight vs Luke Cage Decides Marvel's Future
This Possible Future Ties into Sentry's New Status Quo
While seeing each of these heroes with a huge list of new powers is fascinating, the only major question mark is the Sentry's powers. The Iron Fist is ed down from warrior to warrior, and Hulk's blood has gifted many other heroes gamma strength - most famously Bruce Banner's cousin Jennifer Walters, aka She-Hulk. Likewise, the Iron Man tech and the Eternals' Great Machine can be hacked, and the Eye of Agamotto can be wielded by any sufficiently skilled sorcerer. However, up until now in Marvel lore, the Sentry's powers have only been wielded by Bob Reynolds. This will change in the Sentry #1, which will see Sentry's powers distributed between many different normal people. Marvel has promised one will emerge from the fray as the new Sentry, and apparently Timeless takes place in a timeline where the 'lucky' winner is Luke Cage.
Moon Knight's New Powers Will Change Marvel's Present
Timeless Isn't Just a Look Ahead - It Will Influence 2024's Stories
So far, the Timeless comics have offered a skewed look at the future - the timeline as it will be if nothing changes. There's still time to avert an endgame where Power Man and Moon Knight battle to the death at the end of time. However, previous volumes of Timeless have also outright influenced Marvel's present, for example by setting up Kang's current mission to unlock the 'Missing Moment.' It's therefore likely the fallout of this fight won't be confined to another timeline, especially as Moon Knight and Power Man's new powers take them beyond the godlike - Sentry alone can punch holes between realities.
Comic fans tend to love when Marvel merges its heroes to create new combinations, and even without the apocalyptic set-up, an Iron Man-Moon Knight would be worth turning up to see - however, it's also great news for Marvel fans that Luke Cage is getting such a huge story, given the fan-favorite hero hasn't been given much to do over the last few years.
Timeless #1 is coming December 27 from Marvel Comics.
