Warning: spoilers for Moon Knight #2 are ahead.

The supernatural characters of character's mysterious and unstable nature makes him incredibly powerful.

In Moon Knight #2, Marc, in his more casual form as Mister Knight, responds to a report that the elderly in an apartment building have begun attacking people (written by Jed MacKay, art by Alessandro Cappuccio, colors by Rachelle Rosenberg, letters by VC's Cory Petit). Visiting the apartment himself, Mister Knight discovers that a janitor, named Hawley, has been controlling the elderly in the building by poisoning their water supply with his sweat. After Mister Knight challenges the janitor to a duel, "brain to brain," Hawley taunts him by saying, "I bet you think you got an iron will or somethin', don't you? Like some kinda Captain America" as Knight ingests some of his sweat. Now in his form as Moon Knight, Spector easily beats Hawley by showing him powerful visions of his mind, revealing that his brain has "been irreversibly changed by communion with an ultraterrestrial intelligence." The experience leaves Hawley incapacitated and delirious on the floor of the building, while Mister Knight walks away having saved its residents.

The comparison to Captain America that Hawley makes provides a perfect opportunity for Moon Knight to show what it is that makes him so different, and so much more powerful, than many of the Avengers. One of the reasons why Moon Knight is such an outlier in Marvel Comics is that he isn't a hero created by science, nor one guided by traditional principles like Captain America. Because of this, Moon Knight lacks other heroes' weaknesses, because he exists in a completely separate paradigm.

Moon-Knight-2-Spector's-Mind

Hawley's dialogue shows that he was anticipating a climactic fight with Mister Knight, where the hero had to prove both his strength and the power of his motivations in order to overcome him. But instead, Moon Knight beats him by simply showing him a picture of the chaos and darkness in his mind, revealing his true nature as a being touched by the unfathomable power of an ancient entity. Here, Moon Knight proves that he is beyond the scope of typical strengths and weaknesses of other heroes in the Marvel Universe, making villainous people like Hawley unable to fight him in a traditional manner.

The fact that Moon Knight could easily overwhelm Hawley and his mind control without even needing to throw a punch illustrates the extent to which his true power lies beyond expected modes of combat in superhero comics. While past Moon Knight comics have shown his considerable skill in hand-to-hand fighting, thanks to an extra power boost that accompanies the phases of the moon, it seems that this new series is delving into the unique strengths of his mind. Driven by a terrifying force beyond human comprehension and everyday evil, Moon Knight's abilities make him fall outside the realm of typical Marvel heroes guided by scientific power-ups and belief in good. As such, he doesn't need to prove his strengths by throwing a punch. Instead, Moon Knight only needs to give others a glimpse into his supernatural world.
