An impressive graphics upgrade for Elder Scrolls: Morrowind graphics mods that can make it prettier than Skyrim, and now NVIDIA has revealed an easy way to overhaul the classic Tamriel adventure.
While Skyrim and Oblivion boast enhanced graphics and modernized game design, Morrowind successfully immerses players in a beautiful and alien fantasy world. Tamriel's province of Morrowind combines fantasy elements with steampunk technology, with the land's culture and geography pulling inspiration from real locations like the Middle East and East Asia. Gameplay in Morrowind is completely open-ended, giving players the freedom to pursue the main quest or ignore it completely in favor of side-quests, guild activities or simple role-play. Even after the launch of Skyrim many fans consider Morrowind the best Elder Scrolls game, and now NVIDIA is helping to bring the game's graphics up to modern standards.
A video from IGN (via YouTube) shows off the new NVIDIA RTX Remix system, which has been used to craft a breathtaking graphics upgrade for Morrowind. NVIDIA RTX Remix is intended for use by modders to remaster classic games, with Bethesda's beloved Morrowind serving as an example of the toolkit's abilities. Remix acts as a game's primary renderer, which lets it see the game world. Players can take snapshots of their surroundings, which can then be opened as a virtual sandbox where s can manipulate and recreate individual assets. The result of this work is a breathtaking high-definition remaster of Morrowind that boasts enhanced textures, ray-tracing lighting and more.
Morrowind Gets A New Coat of NVIDIA Paint
While NVIDIA RTX Remix makes Morrowind look nearly as good as Skyrim, the popular Elder Scrolls: Skywind crossover mod actually rebuilds Morrowind within Skyrim. The ongoing project uses Skyrim's Creation Engine to combine Morrowind's mechanics and open world with the modern graphics and gameplay of the most recent Elder Scrolls game. Over roughly nine years Skywind has been built by a large team of modders including programmers, 3D animators, concept artists, voice actors, FX and sound specialists, quest writers and music composers.
The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind is still ed fondly by franchise fans, but the game's visuals have made it very dated by modern standards. Thankfully, the new NVIDIA RTX Remix system lets modders easily and efficiently remaster old-school titles with improved textures and gorgeous lighting. While the remaster still isn't quite as impressive as Skyrim, the NVIDIA Morrowind upgrade clearly demonstrates the value of this exciting new technology.
