After they were left out of the first film, long-awaited Mortal Kombat tournament. In addition to including a tournament, the sequel is very exciting because it will include way more characters.

In Mortal Kombat 2, Karl Urban's Johnny Cage will Earthrealm's other warriors in their fight against Outworld. His inclusion was teased at the end of the first film, so fans have been waiting to see him in action for years. However, in addition to Johnny Cage, many other popular characters from the games will also appear in the sequel. Therefore, here's all the new video game characters confirmed to appear in Mortal Kombat 2, ranked by how excited I am to see them:

9 King Jerrod May Die Early In Mortal Kombat 2

First Game Appearance: N/A

Mortal Kombat Ermac with Kitana and Jade

King Jerrod is a minor character from the video games that has been confirmed to appear in Mortal Kombat 2. His inclusion likely means that Edenia will be featured in Mortal Kombat 2 since he once ruled over the realm. In the story of the games, Shao Kahn conquers Edenia after it loses its tenth Mortal Kombat tournament in a row, killing Jerrod in the process. After Jerrod's death, Shao Kahn ends up marrying his wife and adopting his daughter.

Jerrod's physical appearance has never been shown in the games, so it will be cool to see what he looks like in Mortal Kombat 2.

If Mortal Kombat 2 stays true to the games, Jerrod will be a tragic character in the sequel. More than likely, he will end up dying early in the movie, which is why he is ranked last on this list. In Mortal Kombat 2, Jerrod will be played by Desmond Chiam, who has previously starred in shows like The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and With Love, as well as the movie Joy Ride. Interestingly, Jerrod's physical appearance has never been shown in the games, so it will be cool to see what he looks like in Mortal Kombat 2.

8 Sindel Will Become The Queen Of Outworld In Mortal Kombat 2

First Game Appearance: Mortal Kombat 3 (1995)

Sindel MK11

Since Jerrod will be featured, it only makes sense for Mortal Kombat 2 to also include Queen Sindel. As mentioned, Shao Kahn will likely marry Sindel after invading Edenia, which means that she will have a bigger role than Jerrod in the sequel. In some Mortal Kombat games, Sindel hates Shao Kahn for killing her husband and taking her as his new bride. However, in other games, she actually loves Shao Kahn and is presented as an evil figure. Therefore, it should be interesting to see how Sindel is portrayed in Mortal Kombat 2.

One underwhelming matchup from the 2021 reboot movie proves that the Mortal Kombat 2 needs to fix the franchise's power scale.

In the sequel, Sindel will be played by Ana Thu Nguyen, who has previously starred in Suka, The Spy Who Never Dies, and NCIS: Sydney. If Mortal Kombat 2 does show the invasion of Edenia, it's more likely that Sindel will resent her husband. However, the fact that Sindel has also been portrayed as a villain before makes her an interesting character to look out for in Mortal Kombat 2.

7 Jade Is Another Strong Fighter From Edenia

First Game Appearance: Mortal Kombat II (1993)

Mortal Kombat's Jade without her mask on.

Jade is yet another character from Edenia that will be included in Mortal Kombat 2. After Shao Kahn invades her realm, Jade actually ends up becoming one of his most trusted assassins and spies. Additionally, she is the personal bodyguard for Princess Kitana, Sindel's daughter. In the games, Jade and Kitana are lifelong friends, so it will be interesting to see what their relationship is like in Mortal Kombat 2.

In the film, Jade will be played by Tati Gabrielle, who has appeared in Uncharted, You, and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. Most recently, Gabrielle portrayed Nora, a member of Abby's group in The Last of Us season 2. She had a standout moment in the second season of the hit HBO series, so it's exciting to see her yet another major franchise with Mortal Kombat 2.

6 Kitana May End Up Siding With Earthrealm In Mortal Kombat 2

First Game Appearance: Mortal Kombat II (1993)

Kitana holding out her fans in Mortal Kombat 2.

After being adopted by Shao Kahn following the invasion of Edenia, Kitana initially fights for Outworld in Mortal Kombat tournaments. However, she eventually turns on Shao Kahn and sides with Earthrealm. In the games, Kitana convinces Jade to betray the ruler of Outworld, as well. If this plays out the same way in Mortal Kombat 2, it could be a huge loss for Shao Kahn in the midst of the high-stakes tournament.

Since Liu Kang had a smaller role in the 2021 film, it will be interesting to see if his and Kitana's connection will also exist in the movie franchise.

Kitana is also the main love interest of Liu Kang, who is the main protagonist in most of the games. Since Liu Kang had a smaller role in the 2021 film, it will be interesting to see if his and Kitana's connection will also exist in the movie franchise. In Mortal Kombat 2, Kitana will be played by Adeline Rudolph, who has previously appeared in Riverdale, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, and the 2022 Resident Evil show.

5 Baraka Will Be One Of Outworld's Deadliest Fighters In Mortal Kombat 2

First Game Appearance: Mortal Kombat II (1993)

Mortal Kombat 1 - Baraka

Baraka has one of the coolest designs of any Mortal Kombat character, so hopefully the sequel movie does him justice. Because of his amazing design and intriguing backstory, many fans wanted to see him in Mortal Kombat 2. Thankfully, Baraka will be included in the film as one of Outworld's most fearsome warriors. Since he has sharp teeth and blades that come out of his arms, Baraka will be a major threat to Earthrealm's fighters in Mortal Kombat 2.

In the games, Baraka is the general of the Takartan Army, which is comprised of mutants that reside in Outworld's wastelands. Since Shang Tsung threatened to return with armies at the end of the first film, it's possible that he and Shao Kahn will recruit Baraka and his Tarkata fighters in the sequel. In Mortal Kombat 2, Baraka will be played by CJ Bloomfield, who also had a role in last year's Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga.

4 A Familiar Face Will Return As Noob Saibot In The Sequel

First Game Appearance: Mortal Kombat II (1993)

Mortal Kombat Noob Saibot

Joe Taslim, who played Bi-Han/Sub-Zero in the first film, will return as Noob Saibot in Mortal Kombat 2. Technically, Bi-Han is not a new character in Mortal Kombat 2, but he is still included on this list since he is fighting as a different persona. Bi-Han will no longer wear Sub-Zero's blue costume in the sequel, and instead don a black and gray outfit that represents his newfound connection to death and shadows.

In Mortal Kombat 2, the Netherrealm sorcerer Quan Chi will likely revive Bi-Han as Noob Saibot. If Noob Saibot participates in the tournament in Mortal Kombat 2, then this means his rivalry with Hanzo Hasashi/Scorpion can continue. Therefore, Noob Saibot's inclusion in Mortal Kombat 2 is very exciting since he will be a character seeking revenge, setting up his rematch with Scorpion.

3 Quan Chi Will Bring Characters Back From The Dead In Mortal Kombat 2

First Game Appearance: Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero (1997)

In addition to corrupting Bi-Han and turning him into Noob Saibot, Quan Chi is the reason that other dead characters will return in Mortal Kombat 2. In the games, Quan Chi is a powerful sorcerer and necromancer from the Netherrealm who serves as an antagonist for Earthrealm's fighters, and also feuds with characters like Scorpion and Sub-Zero. He is a member of the Deadly Alliance with Shang Tsung in the games, so it's possible that the two characters will work together in the movie.

Mortal Kombat 2's Returning Villain Is Set To Be Even More Powerful After The First Movie's Tease

Shang Tsung's threat to Earthrealm's fighters at the end of the 2021 reboot movie suggests that he will be even more dangerous in Mortal Kombat 2.

Quan Chi's inclusion in Mortal Kombat 2 is extra exciting since he was previously featured in a deleted scene from 1997's Mortal Kombat: Annihilation. Since he was cut from that film, some fans have been waiting almost 30 years to see Quan Chi in a live-action Mortal Kombat movie. In the film, Quan Chi will be played by Damon Herriman, who has appeared in Justified, Flesh and Bone, and also played Charles Manson twice, first in the series Mindhunter and then in Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

2 Shao Kahn Will Be The Main Villain In Mortal Kombat 2

First Game Appearance: Mortal Kombat II (1993)

In Mortal Kombat 2, Shao Kahn will lead Outworld in the tournament against Earthrealm. Shao Kahn is one of the main villains of the franchise, and will be a terrifying figure in Mortal Kombat 2 if the sequel is able to show just how brutal and menacing he can be. If he does indeed invade Edenia in the movie, then Shao Kahn will likely be at his most powerful in Mortal Kombat 2. Therefore, Earthrealm's warriors will struggle to defeat the all-powerful emperor of Outworld in the film.

In Mortal Kombat 2, Shao Kahn will be played by bodybuilder Martyn Ford. Ford has previously appeared in F9 and several other action movies. Since he is a massive bodybuilder, Ford is the perfect choice to portray Shao Kahn. Based on his size, it seems like Ford will be able to do justice to Shao Kahn's imposing physicality and show how brutal the Outworld ruler truly is. Therefore, Shao Kahn could potentially be an incredible villain in Mortal Kombat 2.

1 Johnny Cage Will Likely Be The Most Entertaining Mortal Kombat 2 Character

First Game Appearance: Mortal Kombat (1992)

Ever since the Johnny Cage tease at the end of the 2021 movie, fans have been waiting to see the popular character in the sequel. In Mortal Kombat 2, Johnny Cage will be an action movie star turned Earthrealm warrior, and his reactions to the movie's sorcery and Outworld's fighters will probably be hilarious. Early details about the movie suggest that Johnny Cage may actually be the main character in Mortal Kombat 2. While this is somewhat surprising, he has been a popular character since the very first Mortal Kombat video game.

In Mortal Kombat 2, Johnny Cage will be played by Karl Urban, who is undoubtedly the most popular member of the sequel's cast. Urban has previously starred in The Boys, as well as major movie franchises like The Lord of the Rings and Star Trek. Urban brings a lot of star power to Mortal Kombat 2 and is playing possibly the most entertaining character in the franchise. Therefore, Johnny Cage is definitely the most exciting new character in Mortal Kombat 2.
