Although the series received mixed reviews, finding fault with its plot, critics praised the cast's compelling performances and The Mosquito Coast was renewed for season 2. However, audiences found themselves frustrated by the fact that the Fox family's criminal past was never revealed. Although the show implied that Allie was the cause for the family's unique predicament, as season 1 drew to a close, it became evident that Margot was at the center of the criminal activity.

"For those who have seen the first season, a lot of people were left quite frustrated, because we didn't know why the family was on the run and what this family did to put them in peril. What I like is, the first episode [of season 2], you find out. That's what the audience is going to get in the very first one. Instead of leading everyone on until midway through the season. you'll see exactly what happened."
"And then you'll have to watch them figure out where to go to next. I can't really tease too much because it gets really involved in the fourth episode all the way until the very very end. I was very pleased with the way they finished off the season."
What's Next for the Fox Family in Mosquito Coast Season 2?
The Mosquito Coast season 2 finds the family still on the run after their daring escape from a local police station. Aboard a boat Allie purchased, they cruise down river and will arrive at a new community deep in the Guatemalan jungle, run by someone from Allie's past. Unfortunately, Margot will struggle to settle down in her foreign home as the latest The Mosquito Coast trailer depicts her ing the U.S. government with a proposition that might lead to her imprisonment.
Although Allie may feel like he found a place where he can finally relax, Lee is still hot on their heels and may prove to be tail they cannot shake off. Add in Dina and Charlie likely struggling to adjust to the unfamiliar territory, especially since they were robbed of their childhood, the Fox family may find itself torn apart by season's end. With The Mosquito Coast returning to AppleTV+ November 4, audiences can finally find out what Margot and Allie have been running from.
