So far, 2023 has debuted some of the most exhilarating TV show seasons in years while also bringing some long-running beloved series to a close. From The Bear season 2 and The Last of Us to the debut of Silo and the series finale of Succession, this year’s television programs have had massive influences on pop culture and the industry at large. However, television’s domination in 2023 is far from over, as the installments between late September and December bring some long-awaited debuts.
While September will be closing out with the premiere of a highly anticipated superhero series spinoff, October will kick off with some fitting entries in the horror genre. These installments include new MCU outings and classic horror adaptations on Disney+ alongside a new Mike Flanagan horror show on Netflix. November 2023 features some exciting debuts of dramas on Netflix and Hulu as well as a new show from Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan on Paramount+. With December concluding the year with the arrival of a much-anticipated Disney+ fantasy adaptation and action series return, there are plenty of TV shows to be excited about throughout fall 2023.
15 Gen V - Sep 29
One of the most highly anticipated new TV shows this fall is Gen V, the first spinoff of Amazon Prime Video’s acclaimed superhero series The Boys. Gen V follows a new generation of young “supes” at Godolkin University School of Crimefighting, which is, of course, run by Vought. With The Boys already being among TV’s greatest superhero satires, Gen V is an exciting way to expand the universe while building anticipation for The Boys season 4. The cast and characters of Gen V season 1 will also be ed by a few familiar faces from The Boys, including The Deep, A-Train, and Soldier Boy. The first three episodes of Gen V premiere on Prime Video on September 29, with subsequent episodes debuting each Friday through November 3.
14 Loki - Oct 5
Following a two-year hiatus, Loki season 2 returns to Disney+ on October 5. After the multiverse-creating ending of Loki season 1, the sophomore outing brings back the title MCU character to team up with TVA agents while searching the multiverse for missing figures. With Loki season 2 slated to set up the new movies and TV shows in MCU Phase 5, the Disney+ series’ new installments carry a lot of weight in the franchise. Loki season 2’s six episodes will be released in weekly installments on Disney+, which will conclude with the anticipated finale on November 9.
13 Our Flag Means Death - Oct 5
Among HBO Max’s (now simply Max) most popular new TV shows is Our Flag Means Death, with the swashbuckler series having made waves upon its premiere in March 2022. The critically acclaimed series was praised for its writing, LGBTQ+ representation, diverse viewpoints, and comedic beats with the 18th-century pirates. Our Flag Means Death season 2 is expected to build on these themes while increasing engagement after successful word-of-mouth marketing campaigns, making it one of Max’s most promising original series. The first three episodes of Our Flag Means Death season 2 hit Max on October 5, followed by five more installments to be released through October 26.
12 The Fall Of The House Of Usher - Oct 12
Mike Flanagan’s final TV show with Netflix before moving to Amazon is The Fall of the House of Usher, a horror series inspired by the titular tale and various other Edgar Allan Poe stories. All eight episodes of Bodies drop on Netflix on October 19.
9 Fear The Walking Dead - Oct 22
With new and returning spinoff shows continuing to debut after The Walking Dead’s series finale in 2022, Fear the Walking Dead remains one of the franchise’s most intriguing offshoots. However, Fear the Walking Dead is similarly coming to a close, which makes its final installments all the more anticipated. Following the conclusion of Fear the Walking Dead season 8 part 1 in June, the final six episodes in part 2 return this October. Fear the Walking Dead season 8, episode 7 will be released on AMC on October 22, followed by weekly installments on Sundays until the series finale on November 26.
