WARNING! This article contains SPOILERS for Wednesday season 1!Wednesday's Nevermore Academy is home to many powerful supernatural species, but one group of outcasts is stronger than the rest. Throughout Wednesday season 1, the title character’s time at Nevermore Academy sees her introduced to new species, some of which are dangerous and mysterious. The various outcast species at Nevermore Academy include psychics (like Wednesday and Xavier), werewolves (like Enid), sirens (like Bianca), gorgons (like Ajax), shapeshifters (like Larissa Weems), vampires (like Yoko), a curious faceless species, and Hydes (like Tyler), although the latter group has been banned from the school for 30 years.

While Wednesday’s focus on psychics suggests they’re an incredibly powerful group, they’re not the strongest outcast species at Nevermore Academy. The same goes for the dangerous, violent, and unpredictable Hydes, as their physical strength appears to be their only key power. From what Wednesday season 1 suggests, the most powerful species at Nevermore Academy is the siren. Sirens are essentially an elevated type of psychic, who can bend anyone to their will using the power of their song. Wednesday season 1 also revealed the usefulness of their mermaid form during the Poe Cup. Although the full extent of the sirens’ powers has yet to be revealed, it’s not surprising that they’re the most influential students at Nevermore.

Why Sirens Are Really Stronger Than Hydes

Wednesday Netflix Sirens Hydes Bianca Tyler

Although the Hyde is Wednesday season 1’s monster villain, the history of the species reveals that they’re not truly the most powerful. Hydes are unpredictable and the extent of their powers is more physical, so without true control over their abilities, they aren’t as formidable and threatening as a highly controlled species like the siren. As far as physically-powerful species go, Hydes appear to generally be stronger than werewolves, yet even Enid – on her first time “wolfing out” – was able to overpower Tyler. Considering how easily a Hyde can be manipulated and controlled by others, an experienced siren like Bianca could bend Tyler to her will faster than Laurel Gates did.

Wednesday Season 2 Can Show The Full Extent Of The Sirens' Powers

Wednesday Netflix Bianca Kent Divina Sirens

Despite already establishing themselves as Nevermore Academy’s most powerful species, Tim Burton’s Wednesday has still yet to explore the full extent of their strength and abilities. Wednesday only hinted at how Bianca manipulated Nevermore Academy into itting her, how Bianca’s mother grew a cult hip, and what controlling Xavier’s feelings entails. Wednesday episode 4's dance scene indicates that sirens can use their songs to both make someone fall in love with them and erase the influence someone has over another person. Psychic manipulation is the siren gift that’s most intriguing, but Wednesday suggests there’s far more about the species to be explored.

Wednesday season 1 primarily focuses on the powers of Bianca, yet her friends Kent and Divina are similarly gifted sirens. Kent uses his mermaid form to sabotage the other canoes during the Poe Cup, yet his influence on others through his powerful song hasn’t been depicted. The same goes for Divina, whose shapeshifting, siren song, and psychic powers haven’t been touched on in Wednesday. Since Wednesday’s record-breaking success on Netflix essentially guarantees season 2's renewal, the next installment can properly explore their weaknesses, especially in regard to what happens when they lose their beauty and their song runs dry.
