The Motorola Edge+ (2022) and they also usually have the chops to back them up. From bleeding-edge processors, continually improving cameras, faster charging technology, and a whole lot more, it's kind of ridiculous how powerful flagship smartphones have become.

Two examples of this are the Edge+ (2022) and Galaxy S22+. These are two of the best phones from Motorola and Samsung, respectively. They have big specs, promising features, and share the same $999 starting price. While both phones look solid on paper, one of them proves to be an easier recommendation for most shoppers. Let's take a closer look.

Starting with the display, this is an area where the Motorola Edge+ and Galaxy S22+ each have a lot to offer. The Edge+ touts a 6.7-inch OLED display, 2400 x 1080 resolution, and a 144Hz refresh rate. Samsung also hides the S22+'s fingerprint sensor underneath the display, whereas the Edge+ integrates it into the power button on the right frame.

Things really shift in Samsung's favor when it comes to the cameras. While both phones appear to have triple-camera systems, the Edge+ is a bit deceiving here. Alongside its 50MP primary and 50MP ultra-wide cameras, the third sensor is a 2MP depth camera. It's supposed to add additional depth data for better portrait photos, but as is often the case with other phones, the effect is usually negligible at best. By comparison, the S22+ feels more complete. It has a 50MP primary camera, 10MP telephoto camera, and a 12MP ultra-wide camera. This lends the S22+ quite a few benefits. Its ultra-wide camera has a wider field-of-view than the Edge+, and the telephoto camera makes zooming quality significantly better. On top of all that, Samsung's image processing is miles ahead of Motorola's. The Edge+ (2022) appears to have one of Motorola's better camera systems, but the Galaxy S22+ remains the superior choice for serious shutterbugs. Whether you're taking Instagram pics of your coffee or trying to compose an excellent shot of the night sky, the S22+ has you covered.

Taking a look inside the phones, the Motorola Edge+ starts to regain some ground. The Edge+ and Galaxy S22+ are while the S22+ doesn't have one at all.

Unfortunately for Motorola, the Galaxy S22+ has one more trick hiding up its sleeve: software . The Edge+ has one of the weakest update policies for a flagship smartphone. Motorola promises just two major Android updates and three years of security patches. By comparison, the Galaxy S22+ gets four years of Android updates and five years of security patches. If you're spending nearly $1000 on a smartphone, you should get one that won't be outdated two years down the road. When you add that together with the Galaxy S22+'s better cameras, nicer display, more refined design, and faster charging, it's difficult to recommend buying the Motorola Edge+. The Edge+ (2022) is a valiant attempt from Motorola to get back into the flagship race, but unfortunately for the company, the Samsung Galaxy S22+ edges it out in more ways than one.
