Sonic the Hedgehog 2 has an impressive roster of stars filling out its cast, including both feature film and television actors. Some of the movie's biggest names don't appear on screen at all, but rather lend their voices to the animated characters. Viewers who were impressed by the cast may want to search out other work that features these performers.
The talented cast has appeared in films and shows that span a variety of genres, including animation, action, comedy, and drama. Fans both young and old can find something to enjoy in their previous work.
Ben Schwartz - Rise Of The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2018-2010)
Ben Schwartz lends his vocal talents to Sonic the Hedgehog 2 as Sonic, the fast-talking, fast-everything protagonist. This isn't the first time Schwartz has voiced an animated hero with a preference for the color blue.
In fact, Schwartz also provides the voice of Leo, the ninjato wielding Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle, in the 2018 reimagining of the classic series, Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Perhaps to take advantage of Schwartz's comedic chops, this version of Leo is more laid back than fans of the franchise are accustomed to.
Idris Elba - Zootopia (2016)
Idris Elba is the voice of Knuckles in Sonic the Hedgehog 2. Fans know Elba by sight from the many blockbuster films he has starred in, including the Thor films. He has also brought various animated characters to life.
Elba's deep baritone is instantly recognizable in Disney's the funniest quotes in Zootopia. Fans who love Elba as Knuckles will appreciate his work in this new animated classic.
Colleen O'Shaughnessey - Naruto (2002-2007)
Veteran voice actor Colleen O'Shaughnessey has been featured in a number of animated series. Before her work as Tails in Sonic the Hedgehog, O'Shaughnessey had already provided the voice of the lovable two-tailed fox in video games starting with 2014's Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal.
One notable series where fans can hear O'Shaughnessey is the English version of the popular anime Naruto, where she voices Ino Yamanaka. Anime fans will appreciate O'Shaughnessey's previous vocal credits, which also include Sailor Moon and Bleach.
Jim Carrey - Batman Forever (1995)
Jim Carrey has been a household name for decades thanks to his unique comedic style. His portrayal of Dr. Ivo Robotnik in Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is a relatively rare turn as a villain for the traditionally comic actor. However, Carrey has dabbled in villainy in some of his previous roles.
Fans can take in his energetic performance and Batman Forever. Carrey's over-the-top, cartoonish turn as the enigmatic villain stands in sharp contrast to recent, more serious portrayals of the character, but it is memorable to fans.
James Marsden - Enchanted (2007)
James Marsden reprises his role as Sonic's adoptive father Tom Wachowski in Sonic the Hedgehog 2. However, this isn't Marsden's first appearance in Enchanted.
Marsden's charm makes Edward a likable, if somewhat arrogant, character. Fans of Prince Edward will be happy to know that Marsden will appear in the sequel, Disenchanted, which is slated to be released later this year.
Tika Sumpter - Mixed-Ish (2019-2021)
In Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Tika Sumpter plays Maddie Wachowski, Tom's wife and Sonic's adoptive mother. Sitcom fans recognize Sumpter as another mom: she plays Alicia Johnson, the matriarch of the Johnson family in the ABC seriesBlack-ish and gives the backstory of the character Rainbow Johnson.
Sumpter plays Bow's mother, who has to help her family adjust after they leave a hippie commune. Fans of the series were dismayed when it was not renewed for a third season, but can still catch the first two seasons streaming on Hulu.
Natasha Rothwell - Insecure (2016-2021)
Natasha Rothwell portrays Rachel, Maddie's sister, in Sonic the Hedgehog 2. Rachel unwittingly endangers Sonic, as her duplicitous fiance is actually an undercover agent tasked with capturing the hedgehog.
Fans of HBO's Insecure know Rothwell better as Kelli Prenny, successful ant and friend of the main character Issa Dee. Rothwell gives a memorable performance as Kelli, often stealing the scenes she is in with her hilarious one-liners. Whether she's forgetting to maintain her fake British accent or running into problems at Coachella, Kelli manages to deliver plenty of laughs.
Shemar Moore - Criminal Minds (2005-2020)
In Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Shemar Moore plays Randall, Rachel's fiance who has a hidden agenda. Moore is perhaps best known for playing Derek Morgan on the long-running crime drama Criminal Minds.
Moore's character is an FBI agent who works as a criminal profiler tasked with analyzing criminal behavior in order to apprehend unknown suspects. To many fans' surprise (and dismay), despite its popularity, Moore left the TV show after 11 seasons. He would return to the series as a guest star in seasons 12 through 14.
Adam Pally - The Mindy Project (2013-2017)
Adam Pally plays Deputy Sheriff Wade Whipple in Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and finds himself temporarily promoted when Tom leaves to attend Rachel's wedding. Fans can also catch him as Peter Prentice in The Mindy Project, which is available to stream on Hulu.
Pally's character is a fan favorite. Peter is a former fraternity bro who works as a gynecologist at the hospital where Mindy works, and the two develop a close friendship. Pally was part of the regular cast from seasons 2 to 4, and his memorable antics were sorely missed by fans after his departure.
Lee Majdoub - The 100 (2019-2020)
Every villain needs a henchman, and Lee Majdoub fills this role in Sonic the Hedgehog 2 by portraying Agent Stone, Dr. Robotnik's devoted lackey. Sci-fi fans may recognize him from his role as Nelson, a recurring character from the sixth and seventh seasons of the post-apocalyptic drama The 100.
Majdoub plays a much darker, more villainous character in this series than Sonic the Hedgehog fans may expect. Nelson is a fanatic, a leader of a faction intent on exterminating the Primes, but ultimately proves to have a loyal nature, which is something he has in common with Agent Stone.
