Disney has shared the first look at its TV series Netflix’s Marvel shows did. Marvel has a long list of TV series coming up (all set to stream exclusively on Disney+), and among those is Ms. Marvel, which will introduce viewers to Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani).
The MCU has brought a variety of heroes and villains from Marvel Comics to the big screen since 2008, and one that fans have been patiently waiting to see is Kamala Khan, a Pakistani American teenage girl who takes on the mantle of Ms. Marvel. Like with many other MCU projects, plot details about the The Marvels, the long-awaited sequel to Captain Marvel, making her connection to Captain Marvel even stronger and more layered.
In the comics, Kamala Khan discovers she has Inhuman genes, which grant her superpowers after being activated by the Terrigen Bomb, and so Kamala has the ability to change her body by elongating it, adjusting her height and stature (she can grow as tall as a building or become as thin as paper), altering her appearance to look like other people, and on top of that, she has accelerated healing. Kamala took her superhero name, Ms. Marvel, as she idolizes Carol Danvers, who (also in the comics) used that same moniker years before. Kamala Khan’s connection to Captain Marvel in the MCU will be the same, with the young hero looking up to Larson’s Carol Danvers.
As part of the Disney+ Day celebrations, the Mouse House shared WandaVision and who in the comics went by “Captain Marvel” at some point.
Ms. Marvel, then, is directly connected to Captain Marvel and her movie gives Kamala the title of Ms. Marvel), though whether Carol Danvers will appear in Kamala’s TV series or not remains to be seen. Of course, there’s still a lot to learn about Kamala Khan’s iration for Captain Marvel and how she will get her powers as she can’t have Inhuman genes now, so there could be more connections between these two characters.
