Marvel Voices is a comic line celebrating the diverse heroes and creators of Marvel Comics. This series has included Marvel's Voices: Pride, Marvel's Voices: Indigenous Voices, Marvel's Voices: Legacy #1, and in October it will also include Marvel's Voices: Comunidades (Community) #1. Before that, Marvel will celebrate Asian characters in August, with Marvel Voices: Identity #1.
Marvel Voices: Identity #1 reveals some of the characters fans can expect to see. These include Shang-Chi, Silk, Jubilee, Jimmy Woo, Ms. Marvel, and many more. It also provides the creative teams behind several of the stories that will be included within this issue. Check out the preview here:
The preview above shows peeks at stories for Shang-Chi, Jubilee, Silk, Jimmy Woo, Ms. Marvel, Silhouette, Wave, Armor, and Silver Samurai. Shang-Chi and Ms. Marvel are about to make their MCU debuts, while Jimmy Woo has already made his. The rest have yet to be seen on the big screen or in Disney+ projects thus far, though they are no less beloved. This is particularly true in the case of Jubilation Lee, better known as Jubilee, a member of the X-Men who has been a fan-favorite for many years despite only having cameos in the X-Men films.
Shang-Chi's story will be written by Gene Luen Yang with art by Marcus To and colors by Sunny Gho. The story involving Jubilee will be written and colored by Christina Strain with art by Jason Loo. Silk's story will be written by Maurene Goo with art by Lynne Yoshii and colors by Sebastian Cheng. Jimmy Woo's feature will be written by Greg Pak with art by Creees Lee and colors by Brian Reber. Ms. Marvel will be in a story written by Sabir Pirzada with art by Mashal Ahmed and colors by Neeraj Menon. Silhouette will be featured in a story written by Jeremy Holt with art by Alti Firmansyah and colors by Irma Kniivila. Wave's story will be written by Alyssa Wong with art by Whilce Portacio and colors by Jay David Ramos. Armor and Silver Samurai's story will be created completely by Ken Niimura.
This new preview shows many of the issue's featured characters in action. Silk is seen with Amadeus Cho on a ferry near Liberty Island, where trouble seems to be brewing at the Statue of Liberty. Ms. Marvel is also seen in action, as is Wave. Contrarily, Jubilee is seen cooking pineapple buns, a sweet bun that is popular in Hong Kong - which is very fitting considering her parents are immigrants from Hong Kong. This isn't the only food being made as Armor is seen arguing with Silver Samurai over efforts to make sushi. These sneak peeks display a celebration of not just heroism, but also a broader look at how these heroes - like Shang-Chi and Ms. Marvel - embrace their cultures and identities. Marvel's Voices: Identity #1 will release on August 25, 2021.
