Marvel Studios finally provides new insight into Kamala Khan's Disney+ show — here's a complete Ms. Marvel trailer breakdown on the show's story, Marvel Easter eggs, and secrets. Kamala Khan only ed Marvel's comic universe in 2013, but the Pakistani-American teenager and Muslim superhero with Inhuman powers quickly became a fan-favorite. The Marvel Cinematic Universe announced in 2019 that Ms. Marvel was in development for Disney+, confirming her place as a big character in the sprawling franchise's future. It is for those reasons that Ms. Marvel has been so highly anticipated for many.

Releasing on Disney+ on June 8, 2022, Ms. Marvel stars Bad Boys for Life duo Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, as well as Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy and Meera Menon. Ms. Marvel's cast is not filled with major Hollywood stars or recurring MCU characters, as the series is squarely focused on Kamala's coming-of-age story. However, that doesn't mean the show isn't connected to the MCU at large. As highlighted by the first Ms. Marvel trailer, this includes altering portions of Kamala Khan's origin and powers compared to the comics to better incorporate her with the shared universe's past, present, and future.

The first Ms. Marvel trailer doesn't show too much in of the specific origin story it will give Kamala Khan. Her normal teenage life, heightened Avengers fandom, Pakistani heritage, and Muslim religious practices are all touched on without diving too deep into the nature of her powers or who she'll need them to fight against. Still, Marvel gave fans plenty of teases as for what they can expect to see. Here's a full breakdown of the Ms. Marvel trailer.

Ms. Marvel Imagines Ant-Man's Battles

Ms Marvel Trailer Breakdown Ant-Man Fight Drawing

The Ms. Marvel trailer kicks off with a tease of Kamala Khan's undying love for the Avengers and superheroes with an Ant-Man reference. Kamala is known for writing Avengers fan-fiction in the comics, and the footage shows that she's also drawing what she thinks the MCU's heroes do. This includes imagining Ant-Man fighting a being of her own terrifying creation known as Man-Ant. Paul Rudd's Ant-Man ed the MCU in 2015, but the size-changing hero has become a much larger part of the story since then. Ant-Man might not make an appearance in Ms. Marvel, but the two characters could cross paths down the road.

Kamala Khan's Classes Could Connect to Moon Knight

There is also a potential tease that Ms. Marvel will have a connection to first MCU Disney+ show coming out after Moon Knight, it would make sense for Kamala's series to reference it in some fashion. Perhaps they're even studying ancient Egypt because of events that transpire.

Kamala's Avengers Shirt Teases New Lineup (& A-Force?)

Ms Marvel Trailer Breakdown Kamala Avengers Shirt AForce

Kamala's Avengers fandom continues in the Ms. Marvel trailer as she wears a shirt highlighting some of the biggest female Avengers . Her shirt says, "Women, let's get information," and shows Captain Marvel, Wasp, and Valkyrie standing together (and wearing glasses). The shirt could be a sign that all three of these MCU heroes are considered of the current Avengers. It might even be a tease that this trio has formed a team of their own, such as A-Force. Little does Kamala know that she'll eventually become one of the superheroes standing next to Captain Marvel.

Ms. Marvel Continues The Superhero Landing

Marvel is also continuing the superhero property tradition of Black Widow critiqued the posing in its own way by having Yelena Belova poke fun at Black Widow's landings. Since it seems like this is a dream sequence, this brief moment indicates what Kamala Khan thinks life is like as a superhero.

Kamala Wears Captain Marvel's Real Costume

Ms Marvel Trailer Breakdown Captain Marvel Costume Kamala Khan

Building on the dream sequence element of Ms. Marvel's trailer, Kamala Khan is sporting the official Captain Marvel costume in these shots. Other marketing materials and set photos show that she wears a Halloween costume version of Carol Danvers' suit during the early days of her superhero adventure. These moments show that Iman Vellani got to wear the actual Captain Marvel costume for sequences in the show. This is surely part of a dream or vision sequence and not an indication that Kamala will actually wear Carol's Kree costume. However, this could be a way for the show to pay homage to the comics too. Kamala famously transformed her entire look in the comics after going through Terrigenisis to resemble Captain Marvel. This could be a way to reference that comic moment without needing Brie Larson to appear.

Kamala Khan Attends Avengers Event

Ms Marvel Trailer Breakdown Kamala Khan Avengers Event

Kamala Khan's Avengers fandom continues as she attends some sort of Avengers event in New Jersey during the trailer. The footage doesn't show her in this location too often, although she is shown iring a piece of art designed after Captain Marvel. Additional shots of the event seem to reference other MCU heroes like Captain America and Iron Man too. This also appears to be the location where Kamala first discovers her new powers. Kamala visiting an Avengers event is quite reminiscent of Square Enix's Marvel's Avengers game from 2020.

Ms. Marvel Trailer Continues Avengers Tower Mystery

Ms Marvel Trailer Breakdown Avengers Tower

The Ms. Marvel trailer also continues the Phase 4 tradition of not revealing what happened to Avengers tower, as the building is obscured in shots showing the New York skyline. Audiences have bene wondering who bought the tower since Tony Stark sold it in Avengers Tower in Phase 4 but has refrained from fully revealing it or sharing who owns it now. Theories have suggested it will be Fisk Tower, the Baxter Building, or Oscorp Tower, but it doesn't appear that Ms. Marvel will provide any clarity.

Ms. Marvel's New MCU Origin & Powers

Ms Marvel Trailer Breakdown Kamala Khan Powers Origin

Kamala Khan's new MCU powers and origin are also shown in the Ms. Marvel trailer. After rumors swirled that the MCU was dropping her Inhuman connection and embiggening powers (which are similar to Mr. Fantastic), the footage confirms those reports as accurate. Kamala now has powers that seemingly originate from gauntlets she found in her attic that are cosmic and energy-based. This likely means that Kamala does not have any superpowers if she doesn't have the gauntlet on. Instead of her body changing shape and form, Ms. Marvel's new powers seem built around constructs, similar to DC's Green Lantern. It's a risky change for Marvel to make, although Kamala's stretchy legs and enlarged hands still seem to be possible, albeit in a brand new fashion.

Kamala Is A Huge Captain Marvel Fan

Ms Marvel Trailer Breakdown Kamala Khan Captain Marvel Fan

For anyone who knows Kamala Khan in the comics, the heavy dose of Captain Marvel references in the Ms. Marvel trailer should not come as a surprise. She is a Carol Danvers superfan in the source material and originally takes the Ms. Marvel name to honor her. Kamala's room is filled with Captain Marvel decorations, confirming that this adoration is sticking for the MCU. However, the show still needs to explain why Kamala is a Captain Marvel fan in the MCU. Carol hasn't spent much time on Earth as far as the movies have shown, but perhaps Ms. Marvel will reveal some of her other adventures that helped turn Kamala into a diehard fan.

Ms. Marvel's Comic Base Is Attacked

Ms Marvel Trailer Breakdown Kamala Base Circle Q Attack

There is also a brief shot containing Kamala Khan's comic base under attack. Circle Q is a local convenience store in the comics that Kamala also uses the upper floors as a base. It seems that her connection to the store might be discovered during Ms. Marvel, as an explosion goes off from inside the building. This could be the show's villains trying to attack Kamala or draw her out. It's a moment that feels reminiscent of Delmar's Deli-Grocery exploding in Spider-Man: Homecoming, so this could be part of Kamala learning that her superhero activities could hurt others.

Ms. Marvel Trailer Teases 4 Villains (Who Are They?)

Ms Marvel Trailer Breakdown 4 Mystery Villains

There is also a curious tease of four mysterious figures standing in an ally with lots of smoke around them. The Ms. Marvel trailer doesn't reveal who these individuals are, but they certainly seem to be villains that Kamala will fight. Subsequent shots even seemed to indicate that she is in the same ally and standing opposite of them. There are rumors that the show's villains will be ClanDestine, a superpowered family who are descendants of the powerful Djinn magicians. Perhaps these four individuals are of the ClanDestine.

Ms. Marvel Fights (Or Trains With) Red Dagger

Ms Marvel Trailer Breakdown Red Dagger Fight

One of the action set pieces teased in the Ms. Marvel trailer show Kamala using one of her giant fists to try and punch a masked opponent, who appears to be Red Dagger. Red Dagger, also known as Kareem, is another Pakistani vigilante in Jersey City and often a love interest for Kamala. It is unclear if this fight between them is part of a training session or possibly a first encounter where they both think the other is a threat. In any case, Red Dagger should become an ally to Kamala over the course of Ms. Marvel.

Kamala Khan Awaits Her MCU Future

Ms Marvel Trailer Breakdown Kamala Khan City

The final shot of Ms. Marvel's trailer is rather simple, as Kamala sits atop a light post in her final costume and looks towards New York City. The context of the moment is unclear, but it seems like she is waiting for her next adventure. While Ms. Marvel will be where Iman Vellani's superhero debuts, it is also the beginning of a bright MCU future. Marvel has already confirmed plans for her to appear in The Marvels opposite Captain Marvel, and there is even the possibility that her show returns for a second season. With a spot on the Young Avengers also possible, there is no shortage of opportunities for Kamala's heroics to continue after Ms. Marvel, as this shot seems to indicate the big world she's yet to fully enter.
