This article contains spoilers for Ms. Marvel episode 6.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which was soon followed by the revelation of Kamala being Earth-616's first official mutant, creating a clear opportunity for the eventual debut of the X-Men.
Throughout Ms. Marvel, the show teased that there was something different about Kamala's genes. Initially, it was believed that her hard light powers came solely from her great-grandmother's bangle, which was then revealed to be linked to her heritage as a Djinn from the Noor Dimension. However, a small interaction between Kamala and Bruno at the end of Ms. Marvel episode 6, "No Normal," revealed a "mutation" in her genes, with the theme song from the 1990s X-Men: The Animated Series playing in the background, which also played during Professor X's first moments in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, confirming Kamala's status as the MCU's first mutant.
This exciting revelation is not only a relief for avid X-Men fans, but it also creates huge opportunities for the future of mutants in the MCU. Past TV and film adaptations of the X-Men comics have always had the task of introducing a large number of mutants to audiences in one go, and they have typically done this from the perspective of a younger, female mutant. Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel can easily fill this role and potentially bring the full X-Men team to the MCU very soon.
How Kamala Khan Can Introduce More Mutants To The MCU
There are two notable instances of the X-Men being introduced through the plot device of a young woman mutant being initiated into Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters and learning of the team for the first time. First, in X-Men: The Animated Series, audiences are immediately introduced to Jubilee, who is brought to Professor X's mansion while being chased by Sentinels. And in the 2000 movie X-Men, Rogue is the conduit for the introduction of the titular team while she's being tracked down by Magneto.
This plays perfectly into the narrative direction taken by Ms. Marvel. Throughout the series, the MCU's Department of Damage Control is chasing down Kamala Khan and her friends using repurposed Stark drones. This perfectly mirrors the themes of previous adaptations and could easily lead to Kamala being taken in by Professor X and the X-Men. Narratively, this would be an excellent way to introduce multiple mutants at the same time, while it still leaves enough questions unanswered to be uncovered in the MCU's future.
With Kamala Khan's infectious energy and curiosity, the X-Men would get a strong introduction in the MCU if she were to be the first established character to meet them. Questions surrounding where exactly the mutants have been hiding during previous MCU projects would still need to be answered, but introducing the whole team in one go and then delving into their backstories may be the best course of action for Marvel. With the Ms. Marvel reveal coming so soon after the cameo appearance of Professor X in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, it won't be long until the X-Men finally become an MCU staple.
