In the world of My Hero Academia, it would appear that society attempts to establish order in a world overflowing with superheroes and supervillains with all kinds of quirks by creating categories and ratings. By ranking heroes according to popular consensus makes the individuals celebrities, who engage in all manners of competition to better themselves, their rankings, and of course, the world around them. With all kinds of dangerous supervillains making themselves known, the next generation of heroes needs to be trained and properly supervised thus where organizations like the popular U.A. High School step in. While it isn't the only superhero high school, it is definitely one of the most prominent with classes full of eager and promising students and the Big Three are exactly that, they are the top three hero candidates in all of Japan.

First appearing in the My Hero Academia manga in Chapter 122 and episode 62 of the anime series, Mirio Togata, Nejire Hado, and Tamaki Amajiki appear in front ofIzuku Midoriya who had a run-in with Mirio sometime earlier.

After his attempt to save the Big Three's introduction falls flat, Mirio wakes up the confused and doubtful 1-A class by challenging them all to face him in battle. Although his Quirk causes him to hilariously lose his clothes, the control of his strength paired with his dexterity and deductive mind allows Mirio to defeat the participating students in Class 1-A with precision and ease. Explaining that his Work-Studies allowed Mirio to become one of the best students in U.A, Mirio, Nejire, and Tamaki would frequently work alongside some of the other heroes later in both the manga and series.

Having seen Mirio's Quirk during the battle, Nejire and Tamaki's powers were revealed later as they often worked alongside select heroes from Class 1-A and other Pro Heroes against super-criminals such as Overhaul or the League of Villains. Tamaki's powers allow him to manifest the abilities of whatever he eats, capable of juggling multiple manifestations regardless of their size or feature. Tamaki appears only to be hindered by his shyness, depression, and otherwise introverted personality although he has overcome it to show great courage and resolve. Nejire's powers allow her to convert her own energy into an offensive power, primarily spiral-shaped shockwaves capable of taking down powerful foes while also giving her the ability to fly. Despite her impressive fighting style, Nejire is a kind, comionate, and an endlessly curious person whose free spirit doesn't prevent her from speaking her mind. All three of these students' powers and their mastery of them have supposedly sured Pro Hero levels, hinting that they'll also become Top Pro Heroes after they graduate U.A.

Despite their different personalities and powers, the Big Three remain a tight-knit trio of friends who stand by and each other, through good times and bad. They may not be the Top Heroes in all of Japan but they are most definitely a force to be reckoned with in My Hero Academia and an inspiration to many of their lower classmen, for, with hard work, the right training, and determination, anybody could be like them.
