A number of classic access to Nintendo 64 and Sega Genesis games, including beloved games such as The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and Super Mario 64.
While Nintendo Switch Online s can already play classic NES and SNES titles, a paid expansion will give gamers access to N64 and Sega Genesis games too. By investing in the paid Expansion Pack, Nintendo fans will be given access to a whole new library of games which includes Super Mario 64, The Legends of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Mario Kart 64 and Yoshi's Story. The Sega Genesis titles coming to Nintendo Switch Online include Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and Castlevania Bloodlines. However, some classic titles such as GoldenEye 007 and Doom 64 are unlikely to be included on Nintendo Switch Online for a variety of unique reasons.
Ahead of their addition to Nintendo Switch Online, Destructoid unveiled a number of high-resolution covers for classic Nintendo 64 games. The new covers are completely faithful to the iconic original pieces of box art, but with highly increased quality. The textures on many of the titles appear to be much crisper, and busy designs such as Mario Kart 64 are cleaner by the more highly-detailed character models. The Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack will launch by the end of October.
While Nintendo 64 games are among the most recognizable pieces of Nintendo's vast library, there are many other classic titles not yet available in a digital format. This may soon change, however, as an insider claims Game Boy and Game Boy Color games will also soon be coming to Nintendo Switch Online. A reliable source recently claimed that these classic portable systems were mentioned alongside N64 and Sega Genesis, prior to the announcement that the latter two consoles would receive titles on the service. The Game Boy and Game Boy Color featured popular games such as The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening and Super Mario Land - both of which would likely be welcomed as modern releases.
Nintendo Switch Online's inclusion of classic N64 and Genesis titles is the first step toward making older generation games accessible to modern console s, as well as allowing long-time gamers a way to revisit the nostalgic titles of their past. These games featured very memorable box art as well, and seeing these covers updated in high definition is a real treat. By combining recognizable designs with modern-day image quality, these Nintendo 64 covers will likely draw the eyes of both classic fans and new players.
