Masashi Kishimoto’s Naruto is undoubtedly one of the most influential and beloved series of all time. Its characters, locations, and power system have been considered among the most complex and compelling that the anime industry has ever seen. While not all fans enjoy the series to the same degree, the large majority agree that it is an incredible show that more than deserves its popularity.

Lamentably, even a series as incredibly well-written as Naruto has flaws, and one of its biggest mistakes was disregarding the biggest lesson its first half taught fans: Naruto not being controlled by destiny. By the end of the series, this once vital lesson was disregarded, displeasing many fans. Boruto: Two Blue Vortex has a unique opportunity to correct this mistake and clear its predecessor’s legacy.

Boruto Can Prove Fate Is Not Set in Stone

The Sequel Can Correct One of Naruto’s Greatest Mistakes

As most fans of the original Naruto series might know, the titular hero was famous during his youth for his belief that he could defy fate. When the story began, the protagonist was nothing more than a social outcast who struggled greatly in school. Most inhabitants of the Hidden Leaf considered him a failure, someone who would never amount to anything. Even then, Naruto never allowed the opinions of others to dictate his life and began training harder than his peers to become a respected warrior.

Nowhere was this amazing lesson better seen than during the fight against Neji in the Chunin Exams arc, considered by most as two of the Hidden Leaf’s most powerful ninjas in history, but also the reincarnation of an ancient god.

Nearly 10 Years Ago, Naruto's Worst Episode Dropped and Dishonored Anime's Greatest Hero

One Naruto episode was heavily criticized for betraying the expectations of fans and became a dark stain at the end of the series.

His lineage went against the idea of him being a self-made warrior, as he had always been destined to become the savior of the world. After more than 2 decades since this tragic overlook, the franchise has a chance to redeem itself. Boruto: Two Blue Vortex is going through a similar situation, and it could be used to remind fans of Naruto’s desire to defy fate. According to Kashin Koji, the Seventh Hokage’s son is destined to die soon, as he has no possibility of defeating Jura. Boruto surviving this battle could prove that the future can be changed.

Boruto Will Honor His Father’s Legacy

The Boy Can Bring Back Naruto’s Most Important Theme

Boruto vs Kawaki

During chapter #22 of the Boruto Two Blue Vortex manga, the titular protagonist was attacked by Jura, leader of the Divine Trees and the most powerful villain in the franchise. Shortly before the beginning of the battle, the boy ignored the orders of his master, Kashin Koji, to let Konohamaru die. Due to his decision, Jiraiya’s clone became convinced that Boruto’s fate was to die at the hands of the monster, as there was no future where he could survive the battle.

Although the situation might look dire now, the boy's survival is almost guaranteed. Not only is Boruto the protagonist of the series, but the fact that the story is still in its early stages implies he cannot die yet. Chapter #1 of the first half also confirms that he will not perish during his current battle, as his inevitable confrontation against Kawaki has yet to take place. Koji’s Prescience technique, a god-level Jutsu that allows him to see all possible futures, seemingly failed to predict a timeline in which the protagonist does not die.

Boruto will undoubtedly defy fate during future chapters of the manga, proving to his former master and the world at large that destiny does not control him. The boy surviving his battle, despite how doubtful his mentor was about his future, would be an amazing way to bring back the motif of heroes defying destiny that the original series had. Boruto could do what his father’s story failed to accomplish: prove definitively that anyone can forge their path.

Boruto Could Also Prove Momoshiki Wrong

The Otsutsuki Was Also Convinced He Knew the Boy’s Future

Momoshiki gives Boruto his karma after he was defeated.

After defeating Momoshiki, one of the most powerful of the mysterious Otsutsuki clan, Boruto had a brief conversation with the alien’s spirit. The villain looked the boy straight in the eyes and claimed that he could see the future that lay ahead of the hero. Momoshiki went as far as to mock the hero, telling him that he could see pain and suffering in his path. As the story of the Boruto: Two Blue Vortex manga has progressed, it has become clear that the alien’s threats were not a bluff.

However, if Boruto truly finds a way to defeat, or at least survive, his encounter with Jura, there would be no reason for Momoshiki’s predictions to become a reality. The hero would be defying not only the future that his mentor saw but also the powers of an ancient alien warrior. This would be an amazing way for the sequel to honor the themes of the original Naruto show while correcting one of its biggest mistakes.
