AMC has released a new trailer for its series, Nautilus is coming to AMC and American audiences on June 29. Based on Jules Verne's novel, a pillar of classic science fiction literature, Nautilus tells the origin story of the book's iconic Captain Nemo.

AMC released a new trailer to promote Nautilus' release in the United States. The trailer shows Nemo (Shazad Latif), an Indian prisoner under British occupation, steal the Nautilus, the world's first submarine. He then assembles a ragtag crew to pilot the innovative ship and escape capture by the British Empire, all while hatching a plot of revenge against his country's colonizers. Nemo and his crew then get into various underwater and terrestrial adventures, including tangling with a massive electric eel, finding lost underwater cities, and having gunfights on horseback. Nautilus seems to be a Pirates of the Caribbean-inspired show, and it should have plenty of adventure in store.

What Nautilus' Newest Trailer Means For The AMC+ Show

Nautilus May Resonate More With American Audiences Than European Viewers

AMC's newest trailer for Nautilus seems almost as ambitious as the concept of revisiting one of the seminal science fiction novels of the 19th century. It's clear that Nautilus is aiming quite high, and it promises to provide roaring adventure, cute humor, and an otherworldly blend of science fiction and fantasy. The trailer also highlights characters other than Captain Nemo, like Humility Lucas (Georgia Flood), which hints that the series will be something of an ensemble akin to Star Trek.

AMC's new trailer may also help Nautilus appeal more to American audiences than it did to European viewers. Nautilus has just two reviews from critics and fewer than 100 from viewers on Rotten Tomatoes, and they're mixed at best. This trailer highlights Nautilus' similarities to Pirates of the Caribbean, and AMC may be trying to emphasize its adventure and fantasy to draw in a wider American audience. Its comedy in particular may appeal to Americans' senses of humor more than it did to British and Irish viewers, and this trailer does a good job of highlighting that.

Our Take On Nautilus' First Trailer & U.S. Debut

I'm Cautiously Optimistic About Nautilus' Sense Of Adventure & Humor

Nautilus close up Shazad Latif looking concerned

The first full-length trailer for Nautilus' American release looks promising, but I'm hesitant to put too much faith in the show. Nautilus had an exceptionally unique development and distribution schedule, which usually doesn't bode well for a high-concept sci-fi series. It also doesn't seem to have performed well in its initial European release, which is another bad sign. However, AMC's new trailer for Nautilus does give me hope that the show will provide some excitement, adventure, and a few good laughs. Only time will tell, but Nautilus may just surprise us.
