The PS5, the current generation of PlayStation, remains in high demand following its launch last year. Though the PS5 debuted in November of 2020, the console is still hard to come by thanks to an interruption in the production of parts and scalpers who resell the devices at higher prices. One of the most notable examples of this is a 16 year old who made $1.7 million from PS5s and Pokémon cards. A sweepstakes for a PS5 is notable, but NBA 2K has raised the bar by giving away a golden edition of the elusive console.

To win the golden PS5, contestants simply had to log on to their Twitter s and reply to NBA 2k's tweet with #2KDay and #Sweepstakes. The sweepstakes period, however, was brief. Contestants only had between 8AM PST and 12:30PM PST to enter. According to the official and conditions on NBA 2K's website, the promotion was only available to residents in the U.S. The PlayStation itself is rendered in 24 karat gold, and the brand boasts that it has an estimated retail value of $10,407.

The winner will be notified on September 16, 2021 and will have five days to claim their grand prize. NBA 2K's tweet had over 10,000 replies by the time the sweepstakes ended. Continuing with their promotion of the new game, NBA 2K's twitter offered other potential items to win throughout the game's launch day. Copies of the new game, virtual currency, and special editions were all up for grabs, proving that the golden PS5 wasn't the only eye-opening prize. The twitter was even giving away signed jerseys from players like Shaq and Kobe Bryant, extremely valuable items not commonly given away by a gaming company.

NBA 2K22 released worldwide September 10, 2021, on what NBA 2K's twitter called "2K Day." Players can experience newly added features like 17 new badges and a new shot meter. One lucky player will be able to experience these features with a golden PS5.
