New images and character details from Neo: The World Ends With You have been revealed. The title will be a sequel to 2007's The World Ends With You, which utilized an urban fantasy setting and unique visual style, but will feature an entirely new cast. The original Nintendo DS title is considered a cult classic, with praise being directed towards its soundtrack, art style and setting.

After years of fan anticipation, it was recently announced that Neo: The World Ends With You will release for PS4 and Switch on July 27, with a PC port planned later in the year. The original game's setting, Tokyo's shopping district of Shibuya, will return along with some of the first game's cast. However, Neo's protagonist Rindo and main playable cast will be almost entirely new.

As reported in the latest issue of Famitsu (and translated by Gematsu), Square Enix has released a large amount of new information about Neo: The World Ends With You, including previously unseen images and new character details. The release reveals that protagonist Rindo is drawn into the Reaper's Game, a competition between the recently deceased with the winner being granted another chance at life, after being caught in the crossfire of a psychic battle. Rindo is described as easy-going and curious. Additional ing characters detailed are Rindo's friend Fret, college student Nagi, and psychically powered Minamimoto.

Outside of cult classics like The World Ends With You, Square Enix has managed to release a number of highly successful titles over the past years. officially titled Forspoken. The game will star a traveler, played by actress Ella Balinska, who must use her magical powers to traverse the fantasy setting of Athia.

The World Ends With You was a niche Nintendo DS title, but the game has been reborn as a cult classic in the minds of gamers. The game's sequel seems to follow closely in its predecessor's footsteps, but hopefully the game will experience a better launch. The information released by Square Enix suggests a deeply personal narrative, with a wide variety of characters for players to meet along their role-playing journey through Shibuya.
