Carmen Sandiego is among the what many don’t’ know about Carmen Sandiego is that it started out as a simple computer game. Since then, it has evolved into a show, and, soon enough, it would also have a live-action film on Netflix.
As for the series, Carmen Sandiego finished airing its final episodes in January, and, for fans who are waiting on the film, here are similar shows and movies to watch first:
Nikita
Just like Carmen, the titular character in this CW series has a rough and shady past. In Nikita’s case, she was made to believe that an agency known as Division rescued her from execution to serve her country. However, she soon learns that she was being trained to become their spy assassin. After going into hiding, Nikita becomes determined to bring the Division down by exposing their secrets.
The series stars Maggie Q as Nikita, and, while Nikita aired its final episode in 2013, the show is still available to stream on CW Seed.
Three Kings
In this 1999 movie, four soldiers hatch a daring plan to steal the gold from Saddam Hussein’s hidden cache at the end of the Gulf War. Written and directed by David O. Russell, the soldiers (George Clooney, Mark Wahlberg, Ice Cube, Spike Jonze) conspire to pull off a heist after they get hold of a map to the gold.
However, as they steal the gold, the men are met with a moral dilemma after witnessing the brutality that locals experience by locals. Despite several hit films, Three Kings continues to be one of Clooney’s most critically acclaimed films to date.
The Italian Job
In this case, we’ll refer to the more recent Italian Job movie, which is the remake that was released back in 2003. This one features quite an impressive cast that includes Charlize Theron, Mark Wahlberg, Donald Sutherland, Edward Norton, and Jason Statham.
Just like in Carmen Sandiego, the goal of the protagonists (Theron, Wahlberg, and Statham) here is to steal from the story’s main villain (Norton). In order to do this, the group pulls off a heist that involves a conspicuous amount of Mini Cooper stunt scenes.
Ant-Man
The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) introduced Ant-Man to its sprawling film franchise back in 2015. Although multiple actors were considered, the titular role eventually went to actor Paul Rudd—and rightfully so.
In the first film, Rudd’s Scott Lang decides to work with Hank Pym in a bid to turn away from a life of crime for good. Soon, however, he learns that his first task is to steal something. Today, Ant-Man is considered one of Rudd’s best movies of all time, and we couldn’t agree more!
Fast & Furious Spy Racers
This Netflix series is the latest spinoff from the ever-expanding Fast and Furious franchise. This time, the focus of the story is Dominic Toretto’s cousin, Tony. In the series, Tony and his team of street racers take on missions around the world under the direction of their liaison, secret agent Ms. Nowhere.
The show’s voice cast includes Tyler Posey, Charlet Takahashi Chung, Luke Youngblood, Jorge Diaz, and Camille Ramsey. The show has recently aired its third season, though there is no word yet on whether Netflix has renewed the series for a fourth go-around.
The Ocean’s Movies
As far as film heists go, nobody quite does it like Ocean’s franchise. In fact, the franchise’s first film, most highly praised heist movies in film history. Moreover, the franchise doesn’t just stand out due to its daring heist sequences and moments of comic relief; one also can’t forget that its cast includes some of the biggest stars in Hollywood. These include Clooney, Brad Pitt, Julia Roberts, Andy Garcia, Matt Damon, Bernie Mac, Scott Caan, and many more. Meanwhile, its recent spinoff, Ocean’s 8, stars Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, and Anne Hathaway.
Inception
By all s, Inception is a brilliant movie. It’s quite cerebral too, so easily one of director Christopher Nolan's best movies.
In the movie, Leonard DiCaprio stars as a career thief who steals information from his targets while invading their dreams. The cast is rounded out by Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Tom Hardy, Ken Watanabe, and Elliot Page. Following its release, Inception scored eight Oscar nods and four wins.
Money Heist
Money Heist is a hit Netflix series that originates from Spain. The series revolves around a group of robbers who are determined to pull off the perfect robbery in Spain that would get them €2.4 billion. Today, it’s easily the best non-English show on Netflix right now, which would explain why the streaming service decided to renew the show for a fifth and final season.
That said, Netflix is yet to announce a release date for the show’s fifth season. Meanwhile, the show has also become quite a cultural phenomenon in the U.S. and everywhere else around the world.
Avengers: Endgame
In this 2019 box office record-breaking MCU film, the Avengers are determined to reverse the damage that Thanos has caused in the hopes of getting their friends back. To pull this off, however, what’s left of the team had to travel in time to pull off a sort of heist unlike any other.
Instead of scoring money or gold, however, the Avengers are after infinity stones. While this team of superheroes was successful in collecting them all, the ‘heist’ also came with a deadly consequence.
Alias
In this series from director J.J. Abrams, Jennifer Garner plays Sydney Bristow, an international spy who was recruited right out of college. Throughout the show’s run, we see Garner transform into various undercover roles—maid, geisha, and even goth—just to pull off a mission.
Just like Carmen, Sydney also specializes in stealth, allowing them to carry out plans without a hitch—well, most of the time. Aside from Garner, the cast also includes Ron Rifkin, Victor Garber, Michael Vartan, and even Bradley Cooper, at one point.
