The recent Ubisoft Forward 2022 event revealed an abundance of Assassin's Creed games were revealed at Ubisoft Forward, but the event went above and beyond by showing off a ton of other camouflaged content.
Even before the Ubisoft Forward event, Ubisoft announced the series' next installment titled Assassin's Creed Mirage. Set in Baghdad in the 860s, Mirage will tell the origin story of Assassin's Creed Valhalla antagonist Basim Ibn Ishaq. A young thief growing up in Baghdad, Basim will the ranks of the Hidden Ones organization while confronting a mythic fate. The game promises to be a return to basics for the open-world franchise, with RPG elements being stripped away in favor of social stealth and freerunning traversal. Ubisoft Forward 2022 included an Assassin's Creed Mirage trailer reveal, which shed new light on the 2023 title.
Ubisoft Forward 2022 also gave more details about the mysterious project Assassin's Creed Infinity, though the initiative is still a ways away. Throughout the year Assassin's Creed Infinity has been teased as a central live-service hub that will host many future Assassin's Creed experiences, and these rumors have now been confirmed. In the future various different games will be launched through AC Infinity, with two of them already being teased at Ubisoft Forward. It remains to be seen how payment will work given the franchise's new live-service setup, but many of the most exciting announcement during Ubisoft Forward 2022 involve the live-service Assassin's Creed Infinity project.
Beyond the Creed Is An AC YouTube Documentary
In honor of the franchise's 15th anniversary, Ubisoft (via YouTube) has released an 11-minute documentary called Assassin's Creed: Beyond the Creed. The documentary takes a look behind the scenes of the franchise's development while spotlighting key developers who helped shape the epic historical saga. Narrative Director Darby McDevitt, Creative Director Jean Guesdon and other talented Ubisoft developers delve into the series' past alongside content creators and streamers.
Assassin's Creed Valhalla Concludes With The Last Chapter DLC
The Ubisoft Forward 2022 event also revealed an Assassin's Creed Valhalla DLC titled The Last Chapter. This final piece of content for the game will be released for free within the next few months. The Last Chapter will neatly tie up Eivor's Viking Age adventures by reuniting them with key characters from the open-world RPG, including some Viking Age historical figures. Eivor will reportedly struggle to process Odin's memories and their influence, which will take players on a climactic final Assassin's Creed Valhalla DLC adventure.
Launched back in 2020, Assassin's Creed Valhalla has been ed for nearly two years with post-launch updates and expansions. DLC storylines like Wrath of the Druids and The Siege of Paris have brought Eivor to brand-new historical locations, while Dawn of Ragnarok saw Odin journey through the lands of Norse myth. Now The Last Chapter will end Eivor's epic journey and set up the franchise's exciting next chapter.
Codename Jade Is A Mobile Ancient China Adventure
Another Ubisoft Forward 2022 announcement came in the form of Assassin's Creed: Codename Jade, an mobile game set in Ancient China. This original experience will take players to the year 215 BCE as they customize a character and hunt targets through the streets of China. Players will be able to parkour atop the Great Wall of China, sneak through bustling cities, and engage in intense combat, translating authentic Assassin's Creed gameplay into a mobile experience.
Codename Red Will Finally Take Assassin's Creed To Japan
Ubisoft Forward also revealed a game titled Assassin's Creed: Codename Red, which will be the first addition to the Assassin's Creed Infinity platform. This open-world RPG will finally take players to Feudal Japan, a historical setting that series fans have been clamoring to visit for years. A short teaser trailer for Codename Red sees a classic hooded assassin leap onto a rooftop in front of a blood-red setting sun. The warrior draws a sword and flicks out a hidden blade, teasing a classic Assassin's Creed experience rife with parkour and assassination.
While little is known about Assassin's Creed: Codename Red, Ubisoft has confirmed that the project will let players live out an epic shinobi fantasy and is set for release after 2023. An Assassin's Creed game set in Feudal Japan has been rumored throughout the year, though many feel that the open-world series will struggle to compete with Sucker Punch Productions' own Feudal Japan game Ghost of Tsushima.
Codename Hexe Is A Mysterious AC Horror Game
Alongside Codename Red, Ubisoft Forward also teased the title Assassin's Creed: Codename Hexe. While little has been revealed about this Assassin's Creed Infinity game, the title's short teaser trailer gives off an ominous horror atmosphere that's unique within the open-world action series. A specific location and time period has not been confirmed yet, but the teaser and title for Codename Hexe may be hinting at colonial Massachusetts' Salem Witch Trials as a setting.
Assassin's Creed Celebrates With A Concert, Webtoon Series & More
Among the Assassin's Creed game announcements made during the event, Ubisoft Forward 2022 teased a number of additional projects currently in the works. This includes the Assassin’s Creed Symphonic Adventure, a fully immersive live concert experience amplified with video, lighting, and special sound effects. Additional episodes of the Assassin's Creed podcast Echoes of History were also teased, along with an artbook looking back on the franchise's first 15 years. A novel titled The Magus Conspiracy, and a webtoon sequel to Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag, will expand the series' ongoing story into brand-new forms of media.
While the show was officially announced long before Ubisoft Forward 2022, the event did give a new glimpse at the Assassin's Creed live-action Netflix series. The show will be run by Jeb Stuart, the writer of Die Hard and the historical drama series Vikings: Valhalla, though it is still very early in development. The epic, genre-bending live-action series is expected to visit or revisit various time periods while demonstrating the epic scale of the Assassin/Templar conflict.
The Assassin's Creed franchise is already a massive multimedia saga, and Ubisoft Forward has teased a number of exciting projects planned for the series' future. Codename Jade will translate the typical open-world Assassin's Creed RPG elements into a mobile title, allowing players to explore Ancient China as a customized character. Meanwhile, Codename Red and Codename Hexe will break new ground by bringing fans to Feudal Japan and an ominous undisclosed time period. With Assassin's Creed Mirage already set for a 2023 release, the future of Assassin's Creed can be found in the past.
