Warning! Spoilers for Detective Comics #1050

The World’s Finest are returning to their own title with the Superman, written by Mark Waid with art by Dan Mora and colors by Tamra Bonvillain. A prelude to the series is promising to embrace the duo’s comic book history, as multiple villains and ing characters show up in the first few pages.

Batman and Superman are coming back to comics with their collective adventures in March. Writer Mark Waid (Superman: Birthright, Kingdom Come) has written for the Man of Steel many times before, and artist Dan Mora has multiple Batman titles under his belt, with Detective Comics and Future State: Dark Detective. Now, the all-star creative duo are telling a new story featuring DC’s most iconic superheroes kicking off in a few months. Before their adventures officially begin, the World’s Finest will be featured in a prelude to the series in Detective Comics.

Following Poison Ivy’s brief rampage in the prelude, Metallo reveals himself to Batman, Robin, and Superman. Based on the released preview for the prelude, Waid and Mora have a lot of freedom without the restraints of mainstream continuity. The series is set for the Dark Knight to recruit the help of the Doom Patrol, which is an odd choice when he already has the Man of Steel’s assistance.

With the involvement of such an unconventional superhero team, Batman/Superman is promising to utilize aspects of the DC Universe often neglected in mainstream canon. As the duo return to their basic essentials, they are being set up for a series of potential. Just like their earliest team-ups, the series seems to be a good “jumping on” point for new readership. Batman/Superman #1 releases on March 15.
