Between working for the MCU and making the third Guardians of the Galaxy film, James Gunn not only found the time to make a DC film, but a spin-off TV series as well. Starring John Cena in the lead, The Suicide Squad. A person who loves peace so much that they would commit utmost levels of violence to protect it, Peacemaker does a fantastic job of portraying Christopher Smith as someone more than a trigger-happy barbarian.
As the very first TV show officially set in the DCEU, Peacemaker had a lot to prove, and judging by the reactions from fans, it has further solidified Peacemaker's position as one of the best characters that James Gunn has brought to the DCEU. The show saw the return of many previously introduced character but also some new faces.
Eagly
Same as many of the other characters in the show, Eagly is an original creation, and arguably the best one as it would be near impossible to find someone who doesn't like the pet eagle. Brought to life with some cutting-edge and realistic CGI, Eagly is the best window to the comionate side of Peacemakers' personality, not to mention just an outstandingly entertaining screen presence.
Following his live-action debut, Eagly was even brought to the pages of DC comics in Strange Love Adventures #1.
Vigilante/Adrian Chase
Sadistic, violent, and Peacemaker's self-proclaimed best friend, Adrian Chase is just one of the many elements that add a humourous layer to the show. The character used to have his own solo series back in the 1980s, and there have been many different versions of Vigilante in DC comics.
Peacemaker is actually not his first live-action appearance, as a character named Adrian Chase appears in the Arrowverse, but Vigilante is a separate being who exists in the CW as well. Peacemaker took an obscure character and gave them a big role to play, and he is sure to pop up in the DCEU in the future.
Leota Adebayo
An original character written for the show, Leota Adebayo is the daughter of Amanda Waller and initially works as her mother's mole inside the 11th Street Kids. In spite of some rough patches throughout, Leota and Christopher go on to become good friends, and she does much to humanize Peacemaker by the end.
Leota and her wife Keeya lived in Gotham City before the events of the show, confirmed in a blink and you'll miss it line where Keeya says "Let's go back to Gotham".
Auggie Smith/The White Dragon
Peacemaker's father Auggie Smith is portrayed as a white supremacist, and the show entertains absolutely no delusions about exactly what kind of a person he is. But something only DC comics fans will know about White Dragon is that he doesn't have any connections to Peacemaker at all.
Peacemaker's father in the comics was a Nazi officer, but making the villain White Dragon his father in the show was a creative decision that added great depth to Peacemaker's character. When compared to him, Christopher Smith doesn't seem like that bad of a person after all.
Judomaster
Judomaster is a name used by multiple people in DC comics, but the Judomaster of Peacemaker remains unidentified by name and is only shown to audiences as a small-statured man who is a martial arts expert. He is far from a major player in the comics, and the series walks a similar path as the character is used more for comedic effect than serious plot reasons.
Allied with the villains and constantly ridiculed for his physique, he successfully fought and defeated every member of the 11th Street Kids at some point, proving himself as one of the strongest Peacemaker characters ranked by fighting ability.
The Butterflies
Yet another original creation of the series, the butterflies species is the main antagonist of Peacemaker. These insect-like aliens enter human bodies and can take over and control them, a fate met by many characters in the series. The heroes spend a considerable amount of time in the show fighting against the invasion of the butterflies, although in the finale it is revealed that their objective is to actually save planet Earth from being destroyed by humans.
In the end, after briefly considering ing hands with them, Peacemaker ultimately decides to put a stop to their plans.
The Cows
Massive, weird-looking CGI creatures seem to be James Gunn's specialty, as both The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker have featured such creations. The cows might not be among the most iconic DC comics alien races, but they are the only producers of a special amber-colored nectar that is the sole food source of the butterflies, hence why they brought one to Earth.
The cow introduced in Peacemaker is killed in the season finale, and much about their species remains unexplained and ready to be explored.
Green Arrow
Characters randomly namedrop people a bunch of times throughout the show, mentioning the likes of Matter-Eater Lad, Bat-Mite, and one of the biggest Peacemaker surprises, Green Arrow. A live-action Green Arrow already exists of course, most notably in the form of the CW's Arrowverse.
But Peacemaker marks the first time the character has been named in the DCEU so far, and thus confirms his existence in the continuity of the films. The sincerity of this namedrop is debatable, and it remains to be seen whether fans will actually get to see him anytime soon.
