Warning! Spoilers for Daredevil: Woman Without Fear #2 ahead!Punisher have never quite seen eye to eye. Thematically, they are very similar, with their use of the anti-hero's strategy and the blurred lines between becoming the very villain the hero is trying to stop. Now it seems another round of this antagonistic struggle is in the works again - only with the twist of new heroes following in the footsteps of their previous mantle-bearers.

With Elektra operating as the Devil of Hell's Kitchen, she comes face to face with the new Punisher in Daredevil: Woman Without Fear #2 by Erica Schultz and Michael Dowling. While the struggle between the two heroes has previously been between Matt Murdock and Frank Castle, this struggle wears a new face, the face of killers.

As Elektra says, she has history with Punisher - just not this one. But history is already in the works in this era-defining moment as the Punisher tries to kill her almost immediately, going further than Frank Castle ever had in their predecessors' struggle.

Daredevil Has History With Punisher

The Man Without Fear and His Battle with the Punisher Throughout the Years

Punisher stands for the vengeance that is owed humans for their wicked nature, while Daredevil represents the hope for humans to fight back and earn redemption.

Daredevil vs. Punisher is an old tale. Its point of interest lies in the fact that it's a fight between two heroes, one who kills for revenge without blinking and one who is a stout Catholic who believes in forgiveness and confession. While it may sound like Daredevil isn't willing to do what it takes in the battle, Daredevil often comes out on top, both physically and morally, downing Punisher again and again.

Punisher stands for the vengeance that is owed humans for their wicked nature, while Daredevil represents the hope for humans to fight back and earn redemption. While their wars have even gone cosmic, there is at least this understanding of their complicated but like-minded goals. Elektra and this new Punisher have no such rapport. They are both killers who are willing to do whatever it takes to win. These are heroes who will not be holding back this time.

Elektra is a former assassin, and as the new Daredevil, she even believes that Matt Murdock's Joe Garrison is Marvel's New Punisher, and he's gritter, more violent (if that was even possible) and has deadlier villains than Frank Castle. While Frank showed at least a semblance of hero-hood, Joe Garrison is a killer through and through.

When these two heroes come together to fight, one of them is going to die. The old Punisher vs. Daredevil story has taken on a new meaning, one where God is absent from the equation and there are only killers out for each other's heads. Punisher has already laid judgment on Daredevil with his first shot, and Daredevil is no longer killing just out of boredom - this time, it might be out of pure choice.
