X-Men's Nightcrawler Learns His True Origins
THE DEFINITIVE NIGHTCRAWLER ORIGIN STORY! This is the one you can’t miss, True Believer! You think you know how the beloved blue devil came into this troubled world? You think you know the tale of his mendacious mamma Mystique? You don't! Mother and son reunite in a mold-shattering tale that exposes secrets held for decades and redefines both characters forever. A collector's item in the making.
As far as fans know, Nightcrawler is the son of Mystique and the demonic-looking Azazel. Abandoned at birth, he was adopted and raised by the powerful sorcerer Margali Szardos, only discovering his parentage later in life. Mystique seemingly abandoned her son because he is a Neyaphem - a subset of mutants who look like, and actually inspired early ideas of, demons - but it seems there's more to the story than that. What makes this adventure even weirder is that Nightcrawler will be pursuing the truth in his new guise as the Uncanny Spider-Man.
Nightcrawler's New Spider-Man Identity Is Just the Start
During the Fall of X era, with mutantkind no longer gathered together in the mutant nation of Krakoa, Nightcrawler will become New York's newest Spider-Man... but fans still don't know why. The mystery is a huge one, but it's highly likely that Kurt's claim to the mantle will come as part of his new origin, and is likely to coincide with a period where Peter Parker's Spider-Man takes on a villainous new mission to kill some of his most despicable villains. New York needs a heroic Spider-Man, but why it has to be Kurt has yet to be revealed.
Nightcrawler's new origin is likely to be a satisfying move for the character, as his backstory has never quite hung together. To be born to a major X-Men villain then coincidentally raised by a former Sorcerer Supreme is a weird background that came together as a result of multiple twists, and even Kurt's powers raise questions - when he teleports, he quickly shifts through the Brimstone Dimension, but his connection to this realm is unclear. X-Men history has often teased that Nightcrawler's origin is bound up in mysticism, but with no satisfying answers as to exactly how. Now, the hilariously titled X-Men Blue: Origins is fixing that, as Nightcrawler's time as the Uncanny Spider-Man starts off with some unexpected truths and a long overdue roadtrip with his absentee mom.
X-Men Blue: Origins #1 is coming November from Marvel Comics.
