Earlier this summer, IDW Publishing revealed that their new ongoing Star Trek: Deep Space Nine television show.

This new comic could answer questions Deep Space Nine fans have had since the show ended. At the end of Deep Space Nine, Captain Sisko was last seen embracing his role as The Emissary for the god-like "wormhole aliens" known as The Prophets. Sisko plunged into an inferno while grappling with long-term nemesis Gul Dukat, only to be lifted into The Prophet's Celestial Temple (aka The Bajoran Wormhole) via their divine intervention. The exact nature of Sisko's fate was left open-ended: whether he was physically in the Celestial Temple or simply his spirit persisted in some manner of an afterlife was left unclear. But now, in the comic, Benjamin Sisko has returned from the Bajoran Wormhole with a task from The Prophets. Much like Thor's Gorr "The God Butcher", something in the Star Trek universe is hunting down and killing the galaxy's god-like beings, and The Prophets have put their faith in Sisko to stop them.

While Captain Sisko is the most apparent link to Deep Space Nine, Data will be ing Sisko on his voyage aboard a new vessel, the USS Theseus. Beyond that, the creators of the series promise the new comic line will tie into everything else Trek ranging from the original series, to Voyager, and "beyond."

IDW's New Star Trek Series Can Answer Questions Left From Deep Space Nine's ending.

One of the most important questions The Next Generation. While Star Trek: Picard finally offered fans a view of what came next, it takes place decades after Deep Space Nine ended. In between is a largely explored swath of galactic history with only a few known developments to bridge the gap.

Star Trek #1 will aim to boldly go where Star Trek hasn't gone before, while bringing plenty of old memories along for the voyage. What comes next for Captain Sisko and the Alpha Quadrant is currently an unwritten chapter of Star Trek history. The voyage of the USS Theseus begins this October 26th, 2022, and will pick right up where Deep Space Nine left off over twenty years ago.

Star Trek #1 will be released by IDW Publishing on October 26th, 2022.
