announcement of Star Wars Eclipse that came during The Game Awards 2021. The names of the other two games are unknown, but it has been confirmed that one will be a strategy game and the other will be a Star Wars based first-person-shooter.
Jedi: Fallen Order breathed new life into Star Wars games, with Souls-like combat, Assassins Creed-style movement, and a new Jedi story as players followed hideaway padawan Cal Kestis as he tries to evade Darth Vader's inquisitors across the galaxy. Fallen Order included a lot of original Star Wars content as well as lots of references, familiar planets, and characters that every level of fan would enjoy. The title of the sequel is unknown so far, but it is known that Jedi: Fallen Order 2 will be darker than its predecessor.
Jedi: Fallen Order left a lot of things open with its ending, so it is very possible its characters and their actions can appear and make an impact in future Star Wars games, shows, and possibly films. One way Jedi: Fallen Order can link to the newly announced FPS Star Wars game is through a minor character that made an important appearance in the game. In Fallen Order Cal travels to the Wookie home planet of Kashyyyk where he meets the insurgent Saw Gerrera, who helps to free the Wookies from the Empire. Gerrera leads a group of Partisans in fighting against the new Empire, and they could be the key link to the new Star Wars game.
The Star Wars FPS Could Focus On Saw Gerrera's Partisans
A Star Wars FPS focused on Gerrera and the Partisans would be great because Gerrera's long-running and detailed backstory makes him an interesting character to follow. Gerrera first appeared in Star Wars: The Clone Wars as a young man leading the Onderon rebels against the Trade Federation during The Clone Wars. He later appeared in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, and was played by Forest Whitaker who voiced the character in Fallen Order and Star Wars Rebels.
In most of his appearances, Gerrera is a serious fighter who constantly rebels against authority. In Rogue One, however, he is older, weaker, and bitter - a far cry from what he used to be. He is still the leader of The Partisans in Rogue One, but their numbers are fewer and their impact is felt less across the galaxy. The soon-to-be-developed Star Wars FPS would be an excellent place to tell the story of the downfall of Saw Gerrera, and it could be told through the eyes of a Partisan soldier that the player controls.
The announcement of three new Star Wars games is very exciting, and one of them being an FPS takes the franchise in a direction it hasn't gone before. While lightsabers are the iconic weapon of the Star Wars universe, there are lots of Jedi-focused games already, and an FPS game is a refreshing way to tell a new Star Wars story in a game. That being said, it would be a good idea to bring Jedi and Sith into the new games, and following Saw Gerrera's Partisans would be a great direction for the Star Wars FPS to go.
