WARNING: Contains Potential Spoilers for SUPERMAN #19!

Superwoman Lois Lane debuts her new costume with a stunning display of speed, achieving a feat on par with Superman that demonstrates her full embrace of her newfound metahuman status. However, this incredible accomplishment also raises questions about the full extent of Lois’s powers and whether she can truly measure up to a full-blooded Kryptonian.

Joshua Williamson, Dan Mora, and Alejandro Sánchez’s Superman #19 launches a new story arc for the Man of Steel, but it’s not Clark who steals the spotlight this time—but rather Lois Lane. In addition to her commendable roles as an award-winning journalist and Daily Planet Editor-in-Chief, Lois has officially embraced a new title: Superwoman.

While this isn’t the first time Lois has used this moniker, it is certainly the most significant, as it takes place in the mainstream continuity of Earth-Prime. As part of her debut as Superwoman, Lois also showcases her new costume, providing fans with their first in-narrative look at this exciting transformation.

Lois Lane’s new Superwoman costume pays homage to Superman's classic look, featuring the iconic blue, red, and yellow color scheme alongside the Super-Family’s recognizable “S” shield and a striking red cape. What sets Lois apart is how she also sports the “S” shield on her shoulders, giving her suit a distinct flair compared to her husband’s. Beyond this, there are significant differences in their designs: Lois’s suit boasts more yellow and less red, incorporating yellow-soled boots and matching gloves, along with yellow accents that highlight her hips. Unlike Superman’s outfit, which features red shorts, Lois’s costume showcases an uninterrupted expanse of her blue bodysuit.

While Lois’s Superwoman costume has been teased for months through cover art, witnessing it in action within the narrative elevates appreciation for its design. The action-packed debut is further highlighted by Lois racing Clark to an explosion, creating an exhilarating first impression of the suit and Lois's powers. Mora’s art captures them as blurs, racing through the city side by side, underscoring their incredible speed and emphasizing that Lois can achieve “blurring speed” to match her husband stride for stride. This moment showcases just how well-developed Lois’s Kryptonian powers are and solidifies her status as a formidable hero in her own right.

Lois’s speed feat does raise several questions. While it’s undeniable that she and Superman were flying incredibly fast, the exact extent of Lois’s powers remains uncertain. Although she was able to match her husband’s speed, it’s unlikely that either Clark or Lois was flying at their maximum speed, given that the situation didn’t call for it. This leads to questions about how Lois's speed compares to her husband's: can she match his top speed? And if not, what would her personal top speed look like? As more issues are released, it will be intriguing to see how Superwoman’s powers stack up against Superman’s.
