The Titans' New Era Is Off to a Rocky Start

Titans Replace Justice League DC Comics

Though this issue's summary suggests a serious upheaval for the Titans team, they're already in a time of transition. After the events of Dark Crisis, the Justice League has decided to take a sabbatical in order to regroup. Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman encouraged Nightwing to rally the Titans to take their place as the DC Universe's premier team. With a new tower being built in Blüdhaven and the classic Titans team finally regrouping after many decades - from Nightwing to Wally West's Flash to Beast boy - the Titans are poised to begin their Dawn of DC era on the right foot.

At least, that's the way it seemed before the release of Titans #2's summary. Beyond being the most recent "replacement" for the Justice League, this version of the Titans is made up of beloved fan-favorite characters, many of whom are only just returning to the spotlight after years of obscurity (and/or different status quos) in the New 52 and Rebirth eras of DC. With Cyborg getting his own new series and Wally West having a new child on the way, it's unlikely they'll be the target, but anyone else is a potential victim. Brother Blood has particular history with Raven, meaning her death could coincide with his return, but Donna Troy's Wonder Girl is also a possibility, given DC only recently introduced a new holder of the same title, Yara Flor.

Who will die? Will they stay dead? How will the Titans solve this murder? Like any good teaser, this newly released information leaves fans with more questions than answers. Nightwing's leadership of the Titans as DC's new top team is about to begin with a death, raising huge questions about whether they can truly fill the Justice League's shoes.

Titans #2 will be available June 20 from DC Comics.
