New World, Amazon’s newest massive online multiplayer roleplaying game takes players into a mysterious dark island surrounded by enemies. As players gain their first levels they will begin to acquire various pieces of gear. Sadly, equipment having good stats does not always mean that the look will be satisfactory. Although some armors with unpleasing appearances may be ignorable, it is very difficult to avoid looking at headgear as it tends to stand out the most. However, if players wish to change the way a hat or helmet looks while wishing to keep it for its stats, New World offers a few alternatives.
As players gather materials, pick their factions, and level up their professions, it can be quite valuable to enjoy the way a character looks. MMO’s can be especially grindy, and New World is no different. Because of this, players will spend a lot of time looking at their character, therefore developing a pleasant ascetic that they appreciate can be very important to properly enjoy the game.
The first option is to use Skins. Players that bought the New World Deluxe Edition might have plenty more options than the usual player as they’ll have a wider array of options to choose from. However, should this not suffice to achieve the desired look, players always have the option to Hide any headgear they have equipped. The process to achieve this is quite similar to applying a skin.
How to Hide Helmets in New World
To hide headgear in New World without losing gear score, players must first click Tab to open their inventory, and right-click on the headpiece they aim to hide. Choose the “Change Skin” option, and scroll down to the bottom of the list to find “Hide Headgear”. Click on that to make that helmet or hat invisible whenever it is equipped on the character. This method basically consists of selecting an “invisible” skin for the headgear, allowing players to benefit from the stats without having it visually displayed.
If players wish to instead acquire more skins, they can do so through the in-game store. These are purchasable with Marks of Fortune, New World’s currency which must be obtained with real money. To do this, click Esc and go to the Store tab. There, find the "Add Marks of Fortune" option to buy them with real currency. Then, players can navigate the in-game store to look for and buy any New World skins they might like.
For players not looking to spend real money, New World offers one alternative, although limited, via dyes. Players will first need to obtain dyes either through cooking, the tradepost or by questing. Then, simply open the inventory with Tab, right-click the piece of armor and select “Dye". This will allow players to change the color of that equipment, assuming they have the necessary dye.
